There are several terms when referring to constrastive analysis such as Comparative Linguistics, Constrastive Linguistics, among others that are ultimately used in the same context. On the other hand, the need for constrastive linguistics is relevant when several linguists are interested in comparing the native language with the foreign one in the learning process, and reveal the problems of the same.

The Contrastive Analysis uses Transference-Interference and Cross linguistics, to explain the influence that the L1 has on the learning of the L2, since similarities and differences can be presented.

Comparative linguistics and Contrastive Linguistics compare and contrast languages using different methods, since the former relates L1 and L2 genetically, as opposed to contrastive linguistics which compares and contrasts culturally related languages.

L2 is presented in L1 generating little difficulty in the students, this is known as positive transfer, while the negative transfer L1 and L2 are not found forming errors in their structure.
