However, some people are convinced that gentrification is actually a solution to reduce damages towards the ecosystems in Hong Kong. Grange & Pretorius (2016) claim that the gap between the poor and the rich can be minimised through gentrification. However, the uniqueness and originality of that neighbourhood will be also be destroyed . For example, 54% inhabitants will be relocated to a new area far from their original neighborhood, and they will need to adapt to a new lifestyle in that area and the old traditions will be replaced.(Qian & Yin, 2018). Therefore, gentrification can also be detrimental to the neighbourhood’s original lifestyle.

Some experts argue that gentrification can occur without significantly disturbing localised communities in Hong Kong's declining historic neighbourhoods. According to La Grange and Pretorius (2016), the gentrification process in Hong Kong has occurred at a scale that allows lower-income constituents of the impacted communities to maintain access to these locales and continue to operate within their respective sub-communities located in the gentrifying district. It is proposed that long-term local inhabitants who have lived in these districts for decades can continue to participate normally within their neighbourhood social frameworks. This argument appears credible on a general level, given the pre-existing intra-district socioeconomic disparities; but, upon closer study, small business owners emerge as a demographic heavily impacted by the gentrification process.

Gentrification can occur with minimal disruptions to local ecosystems in Hong Kong’s dilapidated older districts. According to La Grange,A., & Pretorius, F.(2016),gentrification is related to HK’s urban density as the inner-city housing stock of the older districts hasn’t been decreased by it which results in the disturbance to the development of culture and economy. However, gentrification in Hong Kong’s older districts significantly disrupts the lifestyle of certain demographic groups. The neighborhood activities will be broken after gentrification and migration (Qian, X, & Yin, C.,2018). As these activities are part of their own culture and tradition, inhabitants’ lifestyles will be disrupted to a large extent. In conclusion, the local ecosystems especially in older districts in Hong Kong will be disrupted due to the gentrification.

It is said that gentrification can improve the living condition and economy of low-income family, even though gentrification seemly distruptive (La Grange & Pretorius 2016). supports might believe that the overall quality of life and the facilities will be improved through upgrading old housing stock and attracting new investment. however, the agruement seems to make sense, it may not be entirely true. Development often lead to displacement of residents because of the increasing of living cost. For example, the social fabric and cultural heritage of neighborhoods like Yuet Wah Street are at risk of being disappeared as the unique character of these areas is replaced by homogeneous, high-end development. There is profound influence in breaking social network and losing afforable housing. Therefore, although gentrification may bring some benefits to the city, there is a concern about the most vulnerable groups and the cultural identity of communities, which need be carefully considered.

The production line had moved from the Chicago meat industry to motor manufacturing, so large production appeared. General Motors dominated the car firm in the world by referring to Alfred Sloan’s management theories in the 1920s. The car manufacturer paid attention to the style of the products in order to facilitate a larger frequency of model changes. There was judgment about the industry because of the low efficiency of the most of vehicles, wasting petrol. Simultaneously, extremists appeared in trade unions gradually due to the protection of their jobs of members. Now, some of the most well-known brands in the world own the industry. But the rise of competition and the saturation of markets are threatening many car manufacturers presently.

The rise of contemporary capitalism is mirrored in the expansion of the automobile industry. It started in Germany and France but really took off in the US. Henry Ford invented mass production there by adapting the moving production line from the Chicago meat business to the motor manufacturing industry. General Motors became the leading automaker in the world in the 1920s because to Alfred Sloan's management methods. In order to promote more frequent model changes, automakers concentrated on improving the look of their vehicles after World War II. The inefficiency of the majority of vehicles, which wastefully utilised petrol, led to criticism of the industry starting in the 1970s. In order to protect their members' jobs, labour unions also became more militant during this period. Some of the most well-known brands in the world today are owned by this business. However, crowded marketplaces and heightened competition are presently posing a danger to several automakers.

Although France and Germany were the pioneers, it flourished in the United States. The idea of moving production line from Chicago has taken by Henry Ford, and he transferred it to car manufacturing. This led to mass production. General Motors became the leader among global car companies by using Alfred Sloan’s management strategies in the 1920s. Car manufacturers prioritized vehicle design to encourage more frequent model updates after the Second World War. In the 1970s, the criticism of the industry was caused by the production of fuel-inefficient cars. Meanwhile, trades unions became increasingly militant in protecting workers' jobs. Today, the industry owns some of the most recognizable brands worldwide. However, numerous car producers are now facing keen competition and struggling with market saturation.

It is unveiled that human minds would be utterly fostered by using this technique and it is comparatively easy for humans to retrieve our memory.

Apart from that, drawing is the second tactic. The research in 2018 shows that the elderly can remember colossal words as the adolescent by drawing because of enhancing humans memory from diverse levels.

Not only would drawing be a top-notch method, but also exercise regularly would have practical aspects on memorising. The research reflects that learning sorted images with locations 4 hours before finishing 35 minutes of interval exercising would facilitate the memory of those pictures rather than merely accomplishing the interval training.

Last but not least, doing nothing is the final useful method. According to the experiment conducted by Herriot Watt University(Dewer,as cited in Harmond, 2019), it articulates that the result of having a recess after remembering information is much greater than the result of memorising a week later by using a group of amnesia patients as samp

les.

In the article written by Claudia Hammond proposed four methods to enhance memorization. Firstly, memory can be enhanced by walking backward. A study conducted by Professor Tylor (as cited in Hammond, 2019) indicates that when the two groups of people were given a task to memorize the provided materials, the group whom were ask to walk backward after the memorization shows to memorize more compared to the group walking forward. This study conclude that there is a connection between our mind and space, helping us to better recall memory.

Another method shows to improve memorization is drawing. Hammond (2019) claims that in a study when two groups were ask to memorize the given words. Despite there were elderly, the group whom ask to draw out the words shows to remember more. This study highlights that drawing could strengthen memorization for all kinds of people, even for those with dementia.

Furthermore, exercise was also shown to enhance memory, especically aerobic exercise. Hammond (2019) emphasizes that to maximize the effect of excerise on memory, timing is the key. Research shows that a 35 minutes of interval training before memorizing recall more compared to doing a interval training straight away.

Lastly, an experiment conducted by Dewar (as cited in Hammond, 2019) at Herriot Watt University implies that doing nothing before memorizing could also increase memory. The experiment had tested on people with amnesia, showing a sinificant increase in memorization. For those healthy individuals however, has shown an even better results.

Word count 205

In the article published on March 29, 2019, Claudia Hammond explores innovative memory techniques backed by scientific research. These methods offer practical ways to enhance memory retention and recall, ranging from physical movement to mental rest.

One effective technique is walking backwards, which leverages the connection between time and space in our minds. Professor Samual Taylor from the University of Roehampton conducted experiments where participants walked either forwards or backwards while learning words, pictures, or a video. Those who walked backwards demonstrated better memory retention, suggesting that moving backward in space may help the mind revisit and access memories more effectively.

Another strategy involves drawing instead of writing to aid memory. In a 2018 study, participants were asked to either draw or write down a list of words. Despite the complexity of some words, those who drew them recalled significantly more information, with older adults performing as well as younger ones. This technique even showed benefits for individuals with dementia, highlighting its potential for improving memory across different age groups and cognitive conditions.

Timed exercise is also a powerful tool for memory enhancement. Research indicates that engaging in aerobic exercise, particularly interval training, can boost memory retention. A study found that participants who exercised four hours after learning performed better than those who exercised immediately. This suggests that timing physical activity after learning can maximize its memory-enhancing effects.

Lastly, doing nothing—resting in a quiet, darkened room—can significantly improve memory retention. Michaela Dewar’s experiments revealed that individuals who rested for 15 minutes after learning retained far more information than those who engaged in another task. This technique proved effective for both stroke patients with amnesia and healthy individuals, emphasizing the importance of mental rest in consolidating memories.

These techniques—walking backwards, drawing, timed exercise, and resting—offer simple yet scientifically supported ways to improve memory in various contexts.

In this article, Hammond (2019) suggested four possible ways to enhance memory. First way is to walk backwards. Professor Samual Taylor of the University of Roehamptom conducted a test in which they instructed people to remember a few stuff while walking forward or backwards. The test results revealed that that backward walkers had remembered more as the backward walking tricked their minds into going back in time.

Second is drawing. A test in 2018 was held among groups of younger and older people to memorize a word list by instructing half to draw each word and half to write the words while memorizing. The test results showed that the recalled words of the older people who drew were on par with the younger group.

Hammond (2019) further suggested exercise with the right timing as a way. Research suggest that right timing can further boost memory improvement as people who did 35 minutes of interval training four hours after memorizing a list of pictures paired with locations demonstrated better memory than those who immediately trained.

Lastly, Hammond (2019) suggested doing nothing. Michaela Dewar held an experiment at Herriot Watt university in which people with amnesia were given 15 words to remember but only recalled 14% of it after ten minutes. However, it increased to 49% when they did nothing in a darkened room for 15 minutes. Dewar also found that a short break after learning improved memory retention a week later.

240 words.

The first memory skill was to walk backwards while memorising information. It was shown that people can memorise more easily when they walk backwards because the action can bring their mind to review in the time.

Furthermore, another strategy is drawing. According to the survey in 2018, drawing can be more effective to help older generation learn more words like young people even some of the words are difficult to draw. This is because the drawing exercise can facilitate the memorisation of people from different levels.

Besides, a good memory can also be attributed to doing some exercise at the right time. If people aim to learn something specific, they can exercise themselves as their memory will be significantly improved by doing this. Having a correct timing to exercise is crucial to boost memory compared with the conventional method of regular exercise.

Lastly, doing nothing after learning can improve memory retention as well. Research demonstrates that resting in a quiet environment can lead to significantly better recall compared to engaging in another task immediately after learning (as cited in Hammond, 2019). These findings suggest that a variety of unconventional methods can effectively bolster memory across diverse populations.

Word count: 245 words

People with different age were asked to learn a list of word by either writing or drawing. The experiment shows elderly perform better with drawing at remembering the words than younger people who are writing to memorise.

According to Hammond (2019), doing exercise can also enhance memory. She claimed that memory can be improved by aerobic exercise or one-off exercise at the right time. For instance, people can better memorise a list of pictures if they do 35 minutes of interval training four hours after learning.

The last technique stated by Hammond (2019) is resting. Dewar (as cited in Hammond, 2019) conducted an experiment with stroke patients with amnesia. Dewar found that they can remember 34% words more if they keep stay in a darkened room and not to do anything for 15 minutes. Except for patient, memory can be maintained for a whole week if healthy people take a short rest after learning.

In conclusion, those methods are useful for improving memory, but they are still looking for further research to have a better understanding and usage.

248 words

In this article, Hammond(2019) discusses new ways to improve memory based on recent research.

One interesting method is walking backwards. Professor Samual Taylor found that people who walked backwards while matching their steps to a metronome remembered more information than who walked forwards (Hammond, 2019).This suggests a connection between how we move in space and how we recall things.

Another effective way is drawing instead of writing . A study from 2018 showed that people who drew items from a list remembered them better than those who just wrote them down. This was effective for both younger and older adults, including those with dementia (Hammond ,2019).

Timing exercise also matters for memory improvement. Aerobic exercise, especially interval training, can enhance recall, which is particularly when done shortly after learning. Research showed that having interval training four hours after learning helps people remember better than exercising right away (Hammond ,2019).

Finally, doing nothing can be beneficial. Michaela Dewar’s research revealed that participants who took a short break in a quiet space remembered more words than those who were distracted (Hammond, 2019).This highlights the importance of taking mindful pauses for better memory retention.

In summary, Hammond(2019) suggests that unusual methods like moving differently, drawing, exercising at the right time, and taking breaks can significantly improve memory.

(214 words)
