You will critically analyze songs according to the characters, plot elements, and themes in Fahrenheit 451. You will then present your analyses in a PowerPoint that may be viewed by the rest of the class.

2) You will choose 3 of the 7 songs to listen to and critically analyze the song according to the characters, plot elements, and themes in Fahrenheit 451. Search for the songs online and listen to them all the way through as you read the lyrics. Then, re-read and annotate your songs’ lyrics carefully, paying close attention to how each relates to the novel. (you may use the copies provided or copy and paste a new sheet to annotate)

3) Carefully complete the chart for the three songs you selected. You may delete the boxes of the songs you did not select. Your chart must be specific and detailed with evidence from the novel and song. There is an example done for you (“Fix You” by Coldplay).

4)  Once you have finished the three pre-selected songs, you will select two (2) additional songs that you feel apply to the novel and add them to the chart, completing the boxes.

You will have a total of five (5) songs once you are finished.

1. Knowledge vs. Ignorance- what is real knowledge, why versus how questioning

2. Censorship-The dangers of censorship

3. Conformity vs. Individuality- dangers of sameness

4. Technology- dangers of dependence on technology 

5. Interpersonal relationships – a need for emotional and intellectual relationships vs. superficial and acquaintances 

6. Appreciation of Literature- why society needs literature; the power of books 

7. Dehumanization and Alienation

8. Government control

1) Title slide: project name (Lyrics to Literature), your name, Mrs. Carney, English 8 + your period, date: May 2020

2) Song slides: (one for each song- two songs) Title, Artist, Genre

3) Lyrics slides: (one for each song) Full song lyrics (you may cut off repeated phrases at the end of a song)

4) Lines that connect slides to themes- (one for each song) only the lines that apply to the novel AND the theme you are connecting.

** 5) Analysis of lines slides- connection to themes- MULTIPLE slides per song- This is where you will show your analysis. (Minimum of 2 different lines analyzed- two different slides- Honors level 3 lines for at least one song). The analysis paragraph needs to include which character(s) are involved, scenes (where/when) in the novel, and how these lines connect to the novel. You must also include a quote with page number from the novel that relates to the character/scene. The final sentence connects to whichever theme you are addressing.

6) Final slide- a summary paragraph of your project findings with a connection to our current society.

Slides should be colorful and include images that relate to the novel. You may include a link to the song if you choose.
