1. Perhaps at a small scale, as it allows the younger and older generation to interact together, though not everyone would be on board
2. Reach out to everyone and not just stay within one’s social circle
3. They may be ashamed of them or worry that others will make fun of them.
4. The majority of people feel uncomfortable around the disabled, many people also have a lack of understanding towards them. While they may tolerate them, accepting may not come as easily.
5. Create opportunities for everyone to interact together, so that understanding can take place, resulting in less segregation. The government can also educate the public so that people understand more about disabilities and break stereotypes.
6. People can simply be open minded and learn to accept everyone, to take the initiative to form an inclusive society.

This is because nowadays, as stated in the video, students are becoming more addicted to screens and have little social life.

1.Do you think that social experiments like this one should be carried out in secondary schools?

Yes, I feel that these social experiments will
greatly benefit both the volunteers and the people they visit.

important in ensuring that people have constant perceptions of the society currently;

perceptions of the society are not only limited to what people only view and think;

brings people of different backgrounds together;and

through interaction and understanding, they bring out the best of the society.

2. What can you do as an individual to bring about an inclusive community in your neighbourhood?

As an individual, our actions may seem limited, but our constant actions may impact the others around us. To bring out an inclusive community in our community, we should include and interact with people of different backgrounds and cultures, by bringing out the best in people in activities such as volunteering and organising beneficial activities, but most importantly, we should always have an open heart.

4. What attitude do the majority of the people have towards the disabled in Singapore?
A notable number of people held hostile and intolerant attitudes towards the disabled in Singapore. In a traditional and less-open society like Singapore, more than half of the parents polled were uncomfortable about their child having to sit next to one with special needs in class. These attitudes originate from the rigid society conformity. People’s refusal to accept those who are different contributes to the alienation of the disabled.

6. Besides the government, what can individuals do to build a more inclusive society?
Due to the lack of inclusiveness in the society, a survey with 1000 disabled found that 62 per cent of them do not feel they are included or even accepted. Individuals should learn to think from the perspective of the disabled. The disabled, like us, long for social acceptance. How would you feel if you were a disabled and you are being stared at like an alien by the others?

Besides, individuals should also step out of their comfort zones and talk to the disabled. In this way, they can gain a better understanding of the disabled, and get a glimpse of their inner feelings.

1. Yes. Firstly, this would expose secondary school students to situations that they do not usually experience. Teenagers in secondary schools typically only spend time with people of the same age, and not many of them will expand their friendship circle to the elderly. Secondly, this would form new friendships and relationships which are meaningful and important in everyone’s lives.
2. I can try to buy more things from the shops near my community to help boost their sales and not having to close down because of their earnings and sales. I will also try to talk to the shop owners to include them and when talking to my neighbours, I can also try to include the people in our communities and hopefully they can share to others and try to make our community more inclusive.
3. Some people may be embarrassed that their family members are not normal and they are also scared that said family members might face discrimination by peers and they themselves will also face discrimination. Even if others know that they have a disabled family member, no one would actually do anything about them.
4. Majority of people are not willing to interact with disabled people as they lack understanding towards them. People do not empathize and understand, instead they pity and look down on them. Society cannot accept people that are not “normal”.
5. The government should allow disabled people to interact with us starting from a young age. Eg. For pre-schools, primary schools and sec. school to have a few disabled children. This will expose children starting from a young age.
6. We can try our best to understand their problems. We should not be too quick to judge them. We can volunteer in communities with disabled kids so we get to empathize with them more. Be inclusive and add them into our social circle instead of purposely leaving them out.

They never dared to approach Indians in their community and did not like them. On the other hand, the Indian lady felt that the Chinese were rude, arrogant and was scarred by the very bad impression from her childhood. This is because they teased people from other races when she was in school.

2. What other barriers prevent a society from being inclusive?

The Chinese tend to be richer hence put into schools with higher school fees. This causes them to have little interaction with each other from a young age. Furthermore, people tend to have impressions since young, preventing them from talking to them. Lastly, some others might be afraid to interact as they are scared that they might say something wrongly and hence be heavily punished.

5. How can we meet the current or future needs of the community you are serving?

Through understanding their needs and going on from them. There can be no improvements made if one does not understand the community that they are trying to improved. One example would be to donate some money to help them with getting more equipments suited for those in the community, as well as getting professional individuals to help out.

6. What are some of the implications of the “solutions” you have generated? Would any of these "solutions" impact on other groups in the community?

Donors would be less rich. This could even out the social inequality hence allowing almost everyone to be at a nearer level to each other and be able to understand each other’s lives.
