📌 What is the Hadith of Jibril?

The Hadith of Jibril is one of the most important and comprehensive hadiths in Islam. It is named after Angel Jibril (Gabriel), who came to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the form of a man. He asked the Prophet a series of questions about Islam, Iman (faith), Ihsan (excellence in worship), the Day of Judgment, and its signs. This hadith was narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab RA and is found in Sahih Muslim.

✨ What I Learned from the Hadith of Jibril

Islam – Outward Actions

Jibril asked, “What is Islam?” and the Prophet (SAW) replied by listing the Five Pillars of Islam:

Testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger

Performing the five daily prayers

Giving zakat (charity)

Fasting during the month of Ramadan

Performing Hajj (pilgrimage) if able

➡️ I learned that Islam emphasizes physical acts of worship that reflect obedience to Allah.

Iman – Inner Beliefs

Jibril then asked, “What is Iman (faith)?” The Prophet SAW mentioned six articles of faith:

Belief in Allah

Belief in His angels

Belief in His books

Belief in His messengers

Belief in the Day of Judgment

Belief in divine destiny (Qadar), both good and bad

➡️ These beliefs form the foundation of our inner conviction and aqidah (creed).

Ihsan – Excellence in Worship

Jibril asked, “What is Ihsan?” The Prophet (SAW) said:

“To worship Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you.”

➡️ I learned that Ihsan is the highest level of faith, where worship is done with sincerity, mindfulness, and deep awareness of Allah’s presence.

The Hour and Its Signs

Jibril asked about the Day of Judgment, and the Prophet responded:

“The one being asked knows no more than the one asking.”

However, the Prophet mentioned signs of the Hour, such as:

A slave girl giving birth to her master (social transformation)

Barefoot, poor shepherds competing in building tall buildings (economic and societal change)

➡️ This reminded me to always be prepared for the Hereafter, as its exact timing is unknown.

Purpose of the Hadith

After Jibril left, the Prophet (SAW) told the companions:

“That was Jibril. He came to teach you your religion.”

➡️ This shows that questioning and learning are encouraged in Islam, and that this hadith is a complete summary of our religion: Islam, Iman, and Ihsan.

✅ Conclusion

From the Hadith of Jibril, I learned that being a complete Muslim means balancing:

Islam (practices)

Iman (beliefs)

Ihsan (spiritual excellence)

This hadith also taught me the importance of sincerity in worship, seeking knowledge with humility, and being conscious of the afterlife. It is a reminder to not only follow religious rituals but also to believe deeply and act with excellence.

📌 Definition

Belief in Allah is the first and most important pillar of Iman (faith). It means having full conviction that Allah is the one and only true God, who has no partner, no equal, and no resemblance to His creation. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Controller of everything that exists.

“Say, He is Allah, the One and Only.”

(Surah Al-Ikhlas, 112:1)

✨ What I Learned About Belief in Allah

1. Tawhid (Oneness of Allah)

I learned that belief in Allah begins with understanding Tawhid, which has three categories:

• Tawhid al-Rububiyyah: Believing Allah is the only Creator and Sustainer of the universe.

• Tawhid al-Uluhiyyah: Believing only Allah deserves to be worshipped.

• Tawhid al-Asma’ wa al-Sifat: Believing in Allah’s names and attributes as He described Himself, without changing, denying, or comparing them.

➡️ This strengthens my awareness that everything in my life is under Allah’s control, and that only He deserves my full submission.

2. Attributes of Allah (Asma’ wa Sifat)

I also learned that Allah has beautiful names and perfect attributes, such as:

• Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful)

• Al-Alim (The All-Knowing)

• Al-Qadir (The All-Powerful)

➡️ Knowing these names makes me feel closer to Allah and helps me to rely on Him in every situation.

3. Belief in Allah Shapes My Actions

Believing in Allah isn’t just about knowledge — it affects how I live my daily life:

• I worship Allah sincerely because I know He is watching me.

• I avoid sins because I know Allah sees everything.

• I become more patient and hopeful because I trust Allah’s wisdom and mercy.

“He knows what is [present] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it in knowledge.”

(Surah Taha, 20:110)

✅ Conclusion

From learning about belief in Allah, I now understand that it is the foundation of my faith. It gives meaning to my worship, strength during hardship, and direction in life. To believe in Allah is not just to say it with the tongue, but to live with full submission, love, and trust in Him.

📌 Definition

Belief in the Rasul , means having faith that Allah sent chosen individuals among humankind to deliver His divine message. These rasul were sent to teach people about tawhid (the Oneness of Allah), convey His laws, and serve as examples of righteousness.

“And We certainly sent into every nation a rasul, [saying], ‘Worship Allah and avoid false gods.’”

(Surah An-Nahl, 16:36)

✨ What I Learned About Belief in the Rasul

1. They Were Chosen by Allah

I learned that every rasul was specially selected by Allah for his truthfulness, integrity, patience, and strength of character. They received wahyu (revelation) and were guided to deliver it faithfully.

• The first rasul was Nuh عليه السلام.

• The final and greatest rasul is Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, who was sent to all of humanity.

➡️ I now understand that believing in the finality of Prophethood is essential – Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the Seal of the Rasul.

2. The Role of a Rasul

A rasul has the responsibility to:

• Deliver Allah’s message to his people

• Teach and guide people with wisdom and good character

• Warn about disobedience and its consequences

• Give glad tidings of Allah’s rewards to the obedient

“We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a mercy to the worlds.”

(Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:107)

3. Following Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

I learned that belief in the rusul includes obeying and following the final rasul:

• His sunnah is the practical guide for our lives.

• His akhlaq (character) reflects the teachings of the Qur’an.

• Loving him means prioritizing his teachings above worldly desires.

“Whoever obeys the Rasul has obeyed Allah.”

(Surah An-Nisa’, 4:80)

4. Equal Belief in All Rusul

Even though we follow Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, we must also believe in all the rasul mentioned in the Qur’an, such as:

• Ibrahim عليه السلام

• Musa عليه السلام

• Isa عليه السلام – as a rasul, not as the son of God

➡️ This teaches me that Islam requires respect and belief in all of Allah’s Rasul, without exaggeration or denial.

✅ Conclusion

Belief in the rasul reminds me that Allah never abandoned humanity,He sent guidance through noble individuals. The final rasul, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, completed this message. To believe in the rasul means to follow their path, especially the sunnah of the final rasul, and to live a life of faith, submission, and purpose.

Ihsan and Eschatology

🕊️ Ihsan – Excellence in Worship

📌 Definition

Ihsan is the highest level of faith. In the Hadith of Jibril, when asked about Ihsan, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ replied:

“It is to worship Allah as though you see Him; and if you cannot see Him, then (know that) He sees you.”

(Sahih Muslim)

✨ What I Learned About Ihsan

• Ihsan means doing everything with sincerity, excellence, and deep awareness of Allah’s presence.

• It transforms our worship from routine to spiritual connection.

• It also applies to our daily actions — being honest, kind, and mindful that Allah is always watching.

➡️ I realized that Ihsan is not just for prayer; it’s a mindset of constant awareness (muraqabah), which leads to sincerity (ikhlas) and humility (tawadhu’).

⏳ Eschatology – Belief in the Day of Judgment (Akhirah)

📌 Definition

Eschatology refers to the belief in the afterlife, including events related to the Day of Judgment, such as resurrection, accountability, Paradise (Jannah) and Hell (Jahannam).

“Indeed, the Hour is coming , no doubt about it ,but most of the people do not believe.”

(Surah Ghafir, 40:59)

✨ What I Learned About Eschatology

• Belief in the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah) is a core part of Iman.

• In the Hadith of Jibril, when asked about the Hour, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“The one being asked knows no more than the one asking.”

• Instead of giving a date, the Prophet ﷺ mentioned signs of the Hour, including:

• A slave giving birth to her master (social reversal)

• The barefoot and poor competing in building tall buildings (materialism and pride)

➡️ I learned that no one knows the exact time of the Hour, so the focus should be on preparing for it through righteous deeds.

✅ Conclusion

From this part of the Hadith, I learned that:

• Ihsan teaches me to live with consciousness of Allah, aiming for sincerity and excellence in all aspects of life.

• Eschatology reminds me that this world is temporary, and the afterlife is real. My actions today will determine my fate in the Hereafter.

Together, Ihsan and eschatology shape my spiritual mindset and moral behavior, helping me strive to be a better Muslim inwardly and outwardly.

🌷 Adab Towards Parents in Islam

Islam places great emphasis on honouring and respecting one’s parents. It is considered one of the most important duties after worshipping Allah.

1. Obedience to Parents

• Obeying parents is a major act of righteousness as long as it does not contradict Islamic teachings.

• Qur’an (29:8):

“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents…”

✅ Examples:

• Listening to their advice

• Fulfilling their requests

• Avoiding rebellion or harsh disagreement

2. Respect and Kindness

• We must treat our parents with gentleness, compassion, and mercy, especially as they grow older.

• Qur’an (17:24):

“And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy…”

✅ Examples:

• Speaking politely

• Being gentle in actions and words

• Showing patience and gratitude for their sacrifices

3. Speaking Gently

• Islam prohibits speaking rudely to parents. Even saying “uff” is considered disrespectful.

• Qur’an (17:23):

“Do not say to them [so much as] ‘uff’ and do not repel them…”

✅ Examples:

• Use kind and respectful words

• Avoid raising your voice

• Speak with a calm and loving tone

4. Serving and Helping Them

• Serving one’s parents is a noble form of worship.

✅ Examples:

• Preparing food or helping with house chores

• Accompanying them when they need assistance

• Running errands or caring for their health

5. Making Duʿa (Supplication) for Them

• A righteous child continues to benefit their parents by making duʿa for them, even after their death.

✅ Common duʿa:

“My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.”

(Surah Al-Isra’ 17:24)

6. Supporting Them Financially

• If parents are in need, it is the child’s responsibility to care for them financially, just as they cared for the child in youth.

7. Maintaining a Strong Relationship

• Visiting and maintaining a good connection with parents brings blessings.

• Islam encourages checking on them, especially if they live far away or alone.

🌿 Islam teaches Muslims to appreciate, protect, and preserve the natural world as a sign of gratitude to Allah. The environment is considered a trust (amānah) from Allah and a sign (āyah) of His greatness. Muslims are expected to live in harmony with nature and avoid all forms of destruction or waste.

🌍 1. Nature as a Sign of Allah’s Power

• The Qur’an constantly encourages reflection on nature as a way to understand the greatness and wisdom of Allah.

• Qur’an (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:164):

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth… are signs for a people who use reason.”

✅ Lesson:

Muslims should observe the sky, mountains, rivers, animals, and plants with awe and gratitude, as these are not random, but signs of divine design.

🌱 2. The Environment is a Trust (Amānah)

• Muslims are stewards (khalīfah) on Earth.

• Qur’an (Surah Al-Anʿām 6:141):

“…And do not waste [resources], indeed, He does not like the wasteful.”

✅ Lesson:

We are responsible for preserving the balance of the ecosystem and should not pollute, destroy forests, or overuse water and other resources.

💧 3. Water and Resources Should Not Be Wasted

• Even when resources are abundant, Islam prohibits wastefulness.

• Hadith (Sunan Ibn Mājah):

The Prophet ﷺ used only a small amount of water for ablution and bathing, even if near a flowing river.

✅ Lesson:

Use water, electricity, and food wisely. Simple habits can reflect big values in Islam.

🌳 4. Planting Trees is an Act of Worship

• The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“If a Muslim plants a tree or sows a field and a human, bird, or animal eats from it, it is a charity (ṣadaqah) for him.”

(Sahih Bukhari)

✅ Lesson:

Planting trees and caring for animals is rewarded by Allah as an act of charity and good deeds.

🐾 5.

ROLE PLAY

We were assigned to prepare a presentation in our respective groups, and each group was given a different topic.

For our group, which is Group 3, our topic is “The Hikmah Adab as a Student.” Would you like me to briefly explain our topic?

Alright, let me share a bit based on our group’s presentation.

🎀 In friendship, we should always remain humble and remember that we are all equal, no one is superior or inferior to others. If we see a friend struggling in their studies, we should step in and help. Who knows, through our sincere intention to help, the knowledge we’ve learned may become more blessed and beneficial.

🎀 When we observe proper manners (adab) with our friends, it strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and builds a more supportive learning environment. As students, it is also essential that we uphold proper adab towards anyone who imparts knowledge to us, whether it’s our teachers or even our fellow classmates. We must understand our boundaries and conduct ourselves with respect, because only through adab can the knowledge we gain truly be blessed and fruitful.

Bismillah,

First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Sr. Farisyah for willingly sharing so much knowledge with us. I honestly think this usrah session was very enjoyable. We learned many beneficial things, but in a relaxed and casual environment, so it didn’t feel burdensome at all.

Even though some of the topics were things we’ve already learned before, as human beings, we constantly need reminders about what we should be doing in life. I personally felt that there’s still so much I didn’t know, and through this usrah, I was able to gain a lot of valuable knowledge, especially about our daily life and routine as servants of Allah.

Even though my schedule was packed on the day of the usrah, I felt like being there really helped me heal through the knowledge that was shared. And surprisingly, everyone was so friendly and easy to get along with, even though we all come from different courses.

In short, I just want to say that I’m truly happy to have joined this usrah session. I’ve made so many new friends, and this experience has become a meaningful reminder for me to improve myself. Thank you for the beautiful memories. May all of us be granted ease in everything we do and may we graduate successfully, in shāʾ Allāh. 🩷
