Why do we study TTTC?

We study literature in order to gain perspectives on other views. For instance, of a wartime soilder during this time. Through TTTC, readers are able to understand the complexity of war. The readers are also given an opportunity to find a new away of thinking.

2. How are we affected by literary texts in various ways? How are we impacted by TTTC?
Literature effects us by giving us various ways of shaping how we perceive and think about things. People are impacted by TTTC as their eyes become open to the acts a solider goes throughout his time. It helps the reader now consider the traumatic effect a war can have on oneself.

3. In what ways is meaning constructed, negotiated, expressed and interpreted in TTTC
The author expresses the meaning of a text by their authorial choices. The literary devices they choose help construct the very meaning of the text.

4. How does the structure of style of TTTC affect its meaning?

Tim O'briens stylistic choices with his literary devices throughout effect the meaning of the text as it further develops the meaning of the text. How an author phrases the text and even words the text is very essential for the meaning that it is expressed as one way could mean a bunch of different meanings.

1. The structure and style of literature effects the meaning of the text overall as it shapes how it is developed and interpreted. Morrsion's stream of conciseness allows the readers to see the raw thoughts of the characters mind allowing them to know and interpret things as never people. Morrison also shifts the point of view of the story multiple times as to touch on the fact of the danger of a single story so she made sure there was none.
Cultural and historical context is extremely important when reading books such as Beloved as it allows the readers the ability to make connections as they had background on the text. Beloved was created as an amazing piece of work because of the cultural and historical context and the structure/meaning of the text itself.

The novel specifically addreses gender in small ways yet are powerful as the desribing of thingd and having different reactions depends on gender. For instance, Sethes scars are seen by Amy Denver as desribed as a tree which was beautiful . However Paul D was repulsed by them and their meaning and the past that came with them. The lack of power that Paul D had through the book, due Beloved's hold on him show this issue. There are also other examples of characters struggling to gain power over themselves. For example, Paul D trying to gain his manhood back. It leaves him searching for power in any way and tackling both the issue of gender and power. The women of 124 emphasize what it means to be another and truly love a person even as a former slave.

How were you affected by Auschwitz and After?

This memoir played a significant role in opening the readers eyes with the specific in depth personal accounts of her surviving the Holocaust. As a reader being able through her literary work to vividly see the types of treatment she endured as well as everyone else was truly sickening. This personally affected me by educating me on the Holocaust from a different perspective, from the inside. Overall making it really sad and hard to read as well as interesting as it was an unheard perspective. It made me appreciate the life I live today and grown a respect for Charlotte Delbo as it took a lot for her to survive as well as the other prisoners.

Intertextuality
How valid is the notion of a "classic" literary text? What makes Persepolis "literary" even though it is a graphic novel?

A classic literary text holds a certain essence that one of modern can't hold. The literature within in beautiful and shirking and classics tell history or the story like no one can. Persepolis although it is not a classic literary novel the literature within the photos and text hold the same beauty that the classics hold as well. Through the pictures Satrapi is able to describe her childhood and adulthood through the same beauty as one demeaned "classic".

Time and Space
What insight did Persepolis give you into Iranian life during and after the revolution?

Persepolis sheds light on a unheard perspective of the Iranian life during the Revolution, that of which being a child. It gives the reader insight on the type of treatment and what it was like growing up during such a hard time especially as a child when times are changing. It showed the history aspect of the war as well as the treatment of children and specifically women. They were oppressed by a dictatorship government and had to deal with constant bombing and not knowing whether or not they would be alive the next day. The children especially had to grow up very fast as they were shipped off to other countries for the better.

Attach the panels you found most fascinating and that you discussed during our final Harkness here

Some panels that I found fascinating were the one where Margi was on the boat with her family and there is a sense of beauty throughout the page. It showcases this finding beauty within the midst of hardships. As well as a time were Margi can once again be innocent and vulnerable. Another panel that I think on page 19 is where Margi learns the different perspectives of the world as her mother is telling her one thing and her friends are telling her another. Throughout the graphic memoir there are a lot of contradictions as well as life lessons Margi learns and that is just one of them.

Be detailed in how it connects with global issues and thematic and stylistic ideas to other works.

Persepolis connects to other another type of literature with Langston Hughes with the history aspect both entail. One being slavery and the time of the reconstruction as well as the Iranian Revolution. Global issues that connect each are the effects of an oppressive government. In Hughes this is seen through the white society as they oppressed the Black Americans. In the graphic memoir this ties with the idea as their is an oppressive government within the graphic memoir.

How does Persepolis connect to our world today?

Persepolis connects to the world today as its an unheard perspective of a child growing up during the time of a impactful revolution.
