Sonny Moore (Skrillex) is an EDM producer with an eclectic discography including genres such as dubstep, brostep, pop, hip-hop and post-hardcore. Moore is one of my biggest influences due to his unique sound, advanced production techniques and his ability to push the boundaries of musical genres. Moore's background in punk and collaborations with many other artists is apparent in his music, but has the ability to implement these characteristics and manipulate sounds to turn them into his own.

Flume

Harley Streten (Flume) is an Australian electronic music producer with genres such as future bass, pop, hip-hop and experimental. Streten is one of my biggest influences due to his ability to combine genres with distinctive sound production and create remarkable music that is widely popular. Growing up listening to and seeing Streten perform live several times has made him an important figure in my creative life.

Daft Punk

The French electronic music duo, Daft Punk, were a remarkable influence on Moore. In particular, the duo's 'Alive' 2006-07 tour, where they performed in a massive pyramid covered in LEDs that synchronised with their music to create a state of the art audio/visual display. (Galván, 2021) Moore described the show in LA was like “was like walking into the portal of my destiny. It left an instant and indelible mark on my psyche. The idea of delivering a full concert experience while departing from a band on stage was game-changing – not just for me but for all creators.” (Szatan, 2021)

Aphex Twin

Richard David James, better known as Aphex Twin, is a British electronic music producer. His work consists of a blend of several genres including ambient and techno. His ability to create unique soundscapes and incorporating experimental characteristics pushes the boundaries of electronic music. Moore takes inspiration from James's innovative works, stating that "some of my favourite music pieces of all time are by Aphex Twin". (Robinson, 2015)

Nine Inch Nails

Nine Inch Nails is an American industrial rock band founded by frontman, Trent Reznor, known for creating music with dark, grunge, electronic, and aggressive tones. Reznor combined guitar and distortion with drum machines, synthesizers, and samples (Cantrell, 2020). Moore listened to Nine Inch Nails from a young age (Kale, 2010), inspiring him in his use of heavy bass, dynamic energy and distorted sounds.

Flying Lotus

Streten has taken direct influences from the American producer, Steven D. Bingley-Ellison, better known as Flying Lotus. (Reader's Digest, 2022) Ellison is known for his unique avant-garde electronic production style, combining elements of jazz and hip-hop. (Vozick-Levinson, 2014) Streten takes inspiration from this style, referencing tracks such as 'Zodiac Shit'. "This song in particular was fascinating because it was like a combination; the song completely morphed into a completely different song by the end. ... I think the second half [of the track] was even in a different key. On my new record there’s one song that does that and I think that was influenced by listening to music like this." (Reader's Digest, 2022)

SOPHIE

Streten has described Sophie Xeon as "just one of the most brilliant minds". (Reader's Digest, 2022) Xeon was known for her use of heavy bass lines, distorted sounds and vocal manipulation in her music. Her music has broken through the boundaries of electronic and pop music. (Swoboda, 2022) Streten was good friends with Xeon and worked with her on many musical projects before her tragic death in 2021. "She’s given so much to music in general and shaped culture." (Reader's Digest, 2022)

The Prodigy

The English electronic dance music band, The Prodigy, are known for their breakbeat, rock and alternative sound. Streten had never heard music like The Prodigy before, particularly "the way that it incorporated these really great melodies into ... a breakbeat world." Streten has named The Prodigy as one of his big influences, particularly their 'The Fat Of The Land' record, which includes some of their biggest tracks such as 'Breathe' and 'Smack My Bitch Up'.
