Mary and Jesus share many of the same values. Some of the values that they share are priestly, kingly and prophetic. A priest is a ordained minister who performs religious duties in the Christian Church. Mary and Jesus both were priestly people as they both performed religious duties. A king is a person who has supreme authority over a territory. Mary showed this value when she had authority over the school her and Father Woods had opened up. Jesus showed this value when he had authority to his special powers and helped people with their struggles. A prophet is someone who spreads the word of God and accepts other peoples opinions. Mary became a prophet when she became a nun at the sisters of st Joseph. Jesus became this role when he preached the gospel.

“Never see a need without doing something about it”
This was Mary's motto for life since this saying is what encouraged her to help the poor children. This quote was first said by Mary Mackillop in 1871. Mary quoted this saying aloud for the general public because she new there were problems that were happening around the world and she need help from the people to fix it. The people listened to Mary as they started to make changes to the world. This quote has a high amount of relevance to the work that Mary did as she saw a need that needed help with, which was how the poor children needed help and she helped by making the first free catholic school.

Mary Ellen Mackillop was born on the 15th of January 1842 in FItzroy Victoria. Mary was born into a poor family and was the oldest of 8 children. Even though Mary's family was not wealthy she was still educated at private schools and from her father who studied priest hood.Mary had a strong sense of responsibility and had a natural leaning towards helping others who were less gifted and one day she wanted to become a nun so she could in order to serve them. At the age of 16, to support her family, Mary became a governess at her uncles farm in Penola. There she met a man called Father Woods who shared the same passion with her about educating the poor. He helped Mary by being her mentor and spiritual guide. Together Mary and Father Woods created the firs the free catholic school in Penola. Father Woods had formed a new group for women to become nuns called the sisters of saint Joseph. Mary had joined the group and started to care for orphans, the homeless and the elderly. Soon the sisters of saint Joseph had spread out all over Australia. A lot of tough things happened to Mary but she never lost her faith in God.

The Mary Mackillop foundation is a community based organisation who provides help to Indigenous and Torres Srait islander peoples and deliver their projects as our project partners. They provide help to organisations who support poor people around Australia. They mostly help projects which include help to poverty, sickness, distress and disability. This foundation does the work that they do because they have been inspired by Mary Mackillop to show compassion to people in need regardless of race, colour or faith. They believe that Mary Mackillop was compassionate about the poor children who need help and she gave them an education. So they give scholarships to indigenous people who deserve a right to have a good education in order to be like Mary Mackillop. This foundation shows priestly, kingly and prophetic because they care about the unfortunate children and young adults and their lives and for those children to have a great education and livelihood..
