I have to disagree with the fact of adding cellphones the curriculum because a cellphone can make a learner lose focus in class . Teachers cannot always monitor what learner's log on to when they are supposed to be doing something that is for school .I know that for a fact because I have done that too .As much as a cellphone is important in the development of the learner's knowledge it can also be very distructive . Learner's tend to think that when it's time to use a cellphone that means they have to other things other than school work .

I personally would say that cellphones should not be included in school curriculum. Mainly because it will cause too much of a distraction and the learners may be doing other stuff on their phones than what they are instructed to do. It also could lead to a decline in the learners work ethic because they will become lazy as they are just on their phones. So overall books should remain as the primary source of curriculum . As the use of cellphones could just open the door to more problems.

I will have to agree and disagree. Agree because technology will always evolve and we will always have to keep up and be able to use technology in our daily lives. Technology does make life easier so using cellphones in classes can have a positive impact. However it does have it's disadvantages students will find a way to disturb the lesson whether it's making a group chat and making jokes, etc.

Phonecells in schools?

There is definitely advantages to introducing this type of initiative but I'm afraid the disadvantages outweigh the advantages and there is also a risk factor that many schools are weary of. The disadvantages are that learners become to quickly distracted, not many schools will have 2 or 3 teachers in a class to observe, there's also overcrowding in the classroom which makes it even more difficult to make sure each learner is using it appropriately. Another fact is that so many learners cannot even afford a proper phone and might be bullied because they don't have a certain caliber phone or even no phone at all. Also the issue of learners recording fights and sexual activities in schools gives the specific school a bad image, learners become uncontrollable in interval, after and before school. I think a better solution is to have computer literacy or CAT as a subject from grade 8 where learners can become computer literate and more tech savvy.

Cell phones and the curriculum...

There's the good and the bad! A cellphone as part of the curriculum can be advantageous or disadvantageous.
Either way, the same with any other product!

In today's day and age, being technology wise is for the greater benefit of it, but I believe that school is school, unless you doing a subject like CAT or IT, where you have to be in front of a computer all the time!

But for me, personally I'd prefer that they keep the schools as is, no cellphones allowed, since learners tend to use it, to their disadvantage. Learners tend to bully and cyber bully their classmates! And they use the phones for other than school things(speaking about having faced it first-hand).

from my perspective , i think it's quite a good idea to introduce the given topic . cellphones plays a major role in our daily lives . sometimes it impacts us in many numerous ways . having a cellphone with cool features is somehow a privilege and to enforce it into school curriculum will be very helpful .

In my opinion cellphones in schools would be a great way to improve learning.
Learning material like a PDF can be sent out instantly via whatsapp and bluetooth. A learner can take pictures of the work if they aren't feeling well that day in class. Class tests can be held anytime without need for wasting paper. The possibilities are endless.
However it can become chaotic as some poverty stricken households can't afford to buy a cellphone. Some learners have to walk to school so theres a risk they could be robbed of their cellphone which is expensive to replace and they wouldn't be able to participate in class.
Cellphones should be involved in more schools but it shouldn't be a primary source of education.

In my perspective implementing cellphones as part of a teaching and learning resource can have its advantages and disadvantages. If cellphones were to be implemented at schools I'm afraid learners would not acknowledge the educational purpose of being granted permission to make use of their cellphones in class and it could cause a huge distraction. However it would be beneficial to allow the use of cellphones within a classroom setting as you would allow for learners to adapt to our dynamic world where technology has become such a huge factor and most of our lives revolves around and is dependent on technology so in essence it is has its benefits and it could also come with many negatives.

The world is moving into a more technological age, so why should we stop the younger generation and keep them in the dark ages. Modern-day teachers should be able to incorporate every aspect of technology into pedagogy. Let's not limit our learners to just the book and the pen. Moving forward creates a better way to engage our learners. As a teacher, I would definitely allow cell phones in class during certain lessons.

And also lessons can take place remotely as well, with a better ability to check attendance.
