In this source, Kim Senklip Harvey discusses her intention of joining the NTS Residency Program. She speaks about the opportunities that this program would provide, as well as how she thrives off questions and answers that this program provides. She plans to use this program as a way to spread equity among other artists because the government hasn't done a good job doing so. The creators of this program, NTS, have gained recognition as a premier institution for theatre training due to their educational practices, which are continually examined, reassessed, and adjusted. These practices strike a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, as well as between the transmission of established knowledge and the creation of creativity. This source I provided is a short video on YouTube. The purpose of the video is to welcome and introduce Harvey as part of the program, as well as her plans and ideas going into it.

“Kim Senklip Harvey: Residency Year 1.” YouTube, 8 Apr. 2019, youtu.be/qJcXe8Wja6o.

What’s up True believers, welcome back to the outlaws podcast! I’m your host, Ariq Rahman, and today we’ll be celebrating a very important person! So, who is this person? Well her name is Kim Senklip Harvey, a Canadian actress, playwright and director. She is an Indigenous woman from the Syilx, Tsilhqot’in, Ktunaxa, and Dakelh Nations.

Kim senklip harvey is especially known for her play called “Kamloopa” which won many awards such as several Jessie Richardson awards, a governor general literary award, and a Sydney j. Risk prize award! She is also known as the first Indigenous playwright to win said awards. Kim is also a “Firecreater” which in indigenous theatre context means writer and creator!

How is she making a difference when it comes to what she does? Kim is making a difference by inspiring young indigenous actors and actresses to create and act in stories and plays! Moreover, Kim educated non-indigenous people about her culture by having many themes such as pow-wows and cultural traditions in her play; Kamloopa.

I choose to celebrate Kim because I would like to be an actor myself, and Kim inspired me to reach for whatever I desire! I’ve always had an interest in Movies and Theatre, and I always thought I would never be casted due to my skin colour. However after hearing Kim’s experience, I know that I can share my story with others my own way!

This goes to show how much Kim has an impact, in not just indigenous peoples, but others as well! I’ve learned so much from her and i’ll keep her story in my head for whenever i need motivation to never give up!

That’s all the time we have today, Thanks so much for listening and have a good night true believers. I’ll see you in the next one!!
