An article written by Helen Ladd, Pedro Noguera, Paul Reville, & Joshua Starr for Education Week addresses the state of inequality in educational funding in the United States and how this affects students education. Research has shown that there is a significant achievement gap between poor students and rich students, and students who are English language learners, or minorities, however the current education policies support a "no excuses" mindset for teachers expecting equivalent test scores without taking into account the disadvantages the students face in regards to poverty. In addition schools located in low income areas often receive less funding than those in high income areas placing the students most in need at an even greater disadvantage.

https://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2016/05/11/student-poverty-isnt-an-excuse-its-a.html
