I’m Kieron Brogan, Chief Executive Officer of Sanday Development Trust.

It is a real privilege to welcome you all to Sanday for the Sanday Foy. We are delighted to be hosting you, and I hope the next six days will be enjoyable, informative and memorable, by creating conversations, connections and experiences that will stay with us for a long time to come.

The work behind the Foy began in a very simple and practical way, with Jake wanting to plant grass to help protect Sanday’s dunes from the growing challenges of climate change. From that starting point, it has grown into something much bigger: a project that aims to turn a challenge into an opportunity.

Through this work, we hope not only to help protect Sanday’s coasts, homes and infrastructure, but also to create a future industry for the island. Our ambition is to establish a Centre for Coastal Futures, using Sanday as a living experiment where we can test, learn and share knowledge with other islands and coastal communities across Scotland and beyond.

For us, this is about adaptation, resilience and opportunity. It is about protecting what matters, while also creating local employment, skills and opportunities for our community for years to come.
