In this movie, Andy faces the decision of continuing work or maintaining her relationships with her friends and boyfriend. Similarly, Miranda is forced to sacrifice her relationship with her husband because she is so committed to her work. Throughout the movie Emily is driven to an eating disorder and sickness because she is trying to conform to what Miranda wants and meet the demands of the industry, sacrificing her physical health for her job. Nigel reflects the same sacrifice, it took 18 years for him to be put in a situation where he would have autonomy over his own life but even that was taken from him by Miranda.

In the movie The Devil Wears Prada, it shows a big example of Money Tree when someone else was going to take her job but in order to not get her job taken Miranda had the ability to take her assistants job to give it to Jacqueline in order for Miranda to keep hers. For example, she gave the job that was supposed to go to Nigel to Jacqueline in order to get rid of her as an option for Miranda's replacement. This decision destroyed Nigel, as he was really looking forward to the job and was originally Irv's first choice of partner. But when Miranda found out that she was being replaced she made sure that Irv chose Jacqueline in order to get rid of her. This is a problem with companies that is reflected today.
