We are presented with an image of a spray can spewing paint onto an upright, metal razor. Peering through a radical feminist perspective, our goal is to see "how objectifying hegemonic beliefs and behaviors based on sex, gender, or sexual orientation are reinforced or challenged in some way" (Sellnow 168). So, in this case, does the image reinforce hegemony or challenge it? As the viewer we associate razors with hair and the shaving of it on one's body. Hair, an important component of our body image, is a heightened issue in female imagery. But why is that the case?

We see further that the spray can spews pink paint with the text "PINKIFIER." This text signifies that the image has a specific and intended reading, one that is subverted and oppositional. In this way, the image is an "outright rejection of hegemony replaced with an alternative worldview" (Sellnow 164). This is accomplished by our preconceived notions of gender coding: firetrucks are for boys, ballet is for girls; baby blue is for boys, pink is for girls. As a result, we can assume that the dull, gray, metal razor has become made for females by this "pinkification," a coding made physical by the spray.

Mass media has long since associated an image with female body standards, long mythologizing the "ideal" body one can have. In the same way that women's magazines advertise a "vocabulary of dreams" in which women can come to desire as a result of this media, the image that beauty companies exhibit is one lacking in hair in natural places, rejecting the existence of women that do not wish to exist in those same ideals (Winship 56, qtd. in Storey 168). As a result, the ideal (fictional) female image is constructed by adverts and thus embed itself into the greater consumer's mind. The caption reads "Women's razors...before we came around," explicitly addressing the lack of true representation for women's products that actually answer to problems female hygiene faces. The company billie (sic) is advertising that they recognize this divide between male and female hygiene products and that they openly make products that reject this notion. In essence, billie challenges the hegemony of the patriarchy by rejecting the lack of respect given to the female body by the male class.
