Dog Lover (Fur-mom)

I became apart of this culture at a young age, looking back through my childhood art-work I always drew pictures of dogs. Little did my mom know how strongly my love was for dogs. I would bring home lost dogs to play in our backyard before finding their owner. Eventually I found a dog that no longer had an owner and we adopted him, this where it all began.
I have had the luxury of having a total of five beautiful dogs that have impacted my life, two family dogs: Jackson and Copper, a dog of my own: Gizmo, and two nephews: Buzz and Deeno.
Being apart of this community is a long-term time oriented consistency because I believe taking care of an animal is a process from any stage of their life.

I've been apart of the dental community for the past five and a half years. I grew a tremendous passion for teeth by accident and it has been the best thing to have happened to me. I have been able to connect and engage with a culture that is so fascinating and always growing. Currently I work at a university that has exposed me to the most diverse range of people I've had the privilege of getting to know and work with. I have created different versions of my possible self of where I want to be in this community.

In my opinion I think family is one of the main starting points of developing culture. We gain our fundamental forms of communication, culture awareness, levels of mutual respect, and perception checking with the people closest to us.
In my family a cultural ritual we do during Christmas, having everyone over to bake and frosting cookies and play board games.

WOMAN (Feminine)

Being a woman in my opinion isn’t always easy, we have the pressure of what the world wants us to be. Culturally femininity describes us as being compassionate and sensitive and having the ability to relate to others. Do I see these characteristics in myself? Yes. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to agree to some of the stereotypes that have been placed on me and my gender. I think being a woman is powerful, we as women have the power to create our own social norms on how we should dress, act, speak, etc. I think being a woman and having both feminine and masculine traits makes us beautiful and versatile.

Therapy

Therapy has been my life saver.
I've experienced different forms of trauma in my life and it has definitely brought down my level of self-esteem. I've struggled finding love for my self-image and understanding who I am.
There is a stigma on how people view therapy, saying how "only crazy people go to therapy". I feel this can be a form of selective exposure, someone judging a community without experiencing it first hand or goes against their beliefs.
Granted, it's not for everyone, but having mutual respect for those who chose to handle their mental health in which suits them best.
