JSS Exchange Timeline: Erlebenbach Adventures by Meike Wolf

What an exciting day! Meet-up at JFK, followed by a 7 hour flight and a heartfelt welcome at Frankfurt airport. Later that day, most families reunited at a winery for a small welcome party, while others attended a German soccer game. Sunday was then enjoyed by our students in their respective families. What a start to our time in Germany!

Our students experienced their first day at the partner school! They participated in some welcome activities, such as a scavenger hunt, and various classes. They made new friends, learned new things (respect to those of us who joined an advanced French lesson despite no background knowledge), and were amazed by the differences between the US and German school system.

Our students had the opportunity to experience French lessons, which was understandably a big challenge. However, they particularly participated and excelled in German, Math, History, and English!

Another incredible day at an incredible location - Heidelberg is considered one of the most picturesque cities in Germany, and it truly deserves the high praise. That is also due to the stunning castle that overlooks the old part of the town. Today, we had the chance to tour the castle and to spent some free time to roam the streets of the city - eating out, enjoying the weather, going shopping, etc.

Today's theme was sports - bouldering to be precise. Students showed off their climbing skills and exhausted themselves in the gym.

The morning started bright and early with a 40min hike up a mountain to castle Guttenberg. Our visit there included a museum tour as well as a show that displayed birds of pray (and some real close-encounters). After hiking all the way down again, we headed one town over to play some lasertag.

Today's destination: Heilbronn! We spent most of the day at an amazing place called "Experimenta" - an interactive science museum that even included a 3D show of our solar system in a modern-type theater, comparable to the sphere in Vegas. After that, students were free to explore the city.

Cars and Germany - two words that can't be separated from each other. Therefore, it was to no one's surprise that we had to perform some kind of activity related to that subject during our stay here in Germany. So what did we end up doing? Visiting the AUDI Forum in Neckarsulm, learning about different professions at AUDI as well as car production in general. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take any photos during our tours, so there is little to share today. After our time at AUDI, we ended the day with a shared meal at the local Braushaus.

Our last full day in Germany ... A day full of emotions and goodbyes. Students attended classes together with their exchange partners for thr last time and then came together as a group to work on a project: a collage of their shared experiences - their time in New York and Erlenbach - their favorite memories.
