They go to Georges mechanic shop and Myrtle is seen coming down the stairs and while George is distracted Tom goes to Myrtle and says he wants to see her and gives her money to go to Chicago. Nick questions Tom and says doesnt he mind whats happening and Tom replies "Wilson? He thinks she goes to see her sister in New York. He's so dumb he doesn't know he's alive."(Pg.26). To everyone, Gatsby was a mysterious man. Some people at the party would spread rumors like " One time he killed a man who had found out that he was nephew of Von Hindenburg and the second cousin to the devil."(pg. 61) Without knowing facts about Gatsby they were spreading deceitful lies when he's actually kind and funny.
