The main idea is debade diamond’s ideas. He gives us solutions about how we can change our future.
Purpose:
The purpose is to make people more aware about our uncontrolled self interest and consumption. Page wants us to think ways to prevent this collapse.
3- The writers attitude is negative and sarcastic about culture. As he claims “Americans like stuff because we are amerikan” And also he says we need to recognize that our ability to alter culture is limited and rather than to try to change it.

1. Page(2005)argues Diamond's ideas;therefore, the writer says what should people do .He gives an example from government which use intelligent policies. The writer claims that people's behaviours can be changed by using intelligent policies.
2. Page(2005) highlighted that our adaptation capacity is limited.Additionally, Diamond is so pessimistic and the writer objects his ideas because the writer claims that if people want to achieve something, they should take some responsibility and accept the consequences.

1- Diamond’s claims are not enough to prevent societies’ collapsing. No matter how hard they try they can not change their cultural roots. The government should rwspond to our need. He develops that idea with Norse and America examples.

2- The writer’s purpose is to demonstrate people to prevent collapsing not only Diamons techniques but also changing citizen’s ability and behaviours. He’s trying to change our opinion on the idea that there are better ways.

3-He is not hopeful about American culture’s future and wories about people’s reckless consumption and selfish tendencies.

1)The main idea is to reject the Diamond's 12 reasons about how we collapse by explaining why bottom up environmentalism can't succeed.Instead of Diamond's ideas he offers to push government policies that requires an understanding of consumerist culture.
2)PURPOSE
The writer tries to convince that bottom up environmentalism can not happen in modern societies. He points out the environmentalist individuals should push for government policies that encourage us to change our behaviour.
3)ATTITUDE
The writer is sarcastic towards American culture and he expresses that it can't be changed easily like he says '' Americans like stuff because we are American. '' (Whybrow 2005).

While Diamond support bottom up environmentalism for 12 reasons for collapse, Page mentions that government should take more action for problems.

Page, persuade people bottom up environmentalism cannot be done in the 21th century. He criticize Diamond’s solution and suggests that government to take more action and make strict policies to mitigate environmental problems.

Page attitude towards the American culture is sarcastic. the writer thinks that people are too selfish to change their attitude towards nature and consuming. As Page said in the article “Modern day Americans may be no more likely to become environmentalists”. They love luxuries, they do not give up that for protecting nature(!).
