Socially: due to the tension between the U.S and the USSR people fear that of a nuclear war may occur so they started making shelters and bunkers in their back yards, and practicing drills in schools/working places to hide under your desk. The government started to do loyalty test, and so many people were fine and lost their jobs and others were force to quit their jobs because they were accuse or were communist. Some examples of this happened in Hollywood, large corporations, and school districts.
Economically: The U.S and USSR were debating capitalism vs communism. The U.S promoted free market capitalism while the USSR promoted communism. The beginning of this war made the industry related to war, grow fast, due to the fact that they were competing who had more bombs, Arsenal, etc.. this made the government expand their military.

The U.S promoted anti-communism and kept communism from spreading throughout the world. The USSR did the opposite and promoted communism. Some Iran,Guatemala, Hungary tried to change to communism but weren’t successful due to CIA agents overthrowing the government, this was known as cover operations. In Iran they infiltrate spies create civil unrest, cause riots in the streets and replace the communist leader with a pro American. In Guatemala they train rebels and attacked the communist government, then the leader flee the country and replace them with a pro American leader. In Hungary a similar situation to Iran happened, they created civil unrest and destroyed the rebellion. This conflict between the U.S and USSR created tension around the world and created other problems. This can be seen in the crises of Taiwan were China threatened to take Taiwan but the backoff, because IKE threaten to nuke them. A similar case can be seen in the Suez Canal, we’re Egypt controlled the canal from France, then France and Britain invade Egypt. Egypt the aligns with the USSR, the IKE threatens nuclear war and everyone backoff.
