INTRODUCTION TO (NLM)
The National Library is responsible for providing a nationwide collection of knowledge for present and future generations. In an effort to strengthen the library's holdings, the National Library continues to play an active role in the procurement of library material through the repository application. of the Library Material Act of 1986, donation and exchange of acquisition.

The Malaysian Collection, which is the National Library's pride and joy. It includes library items produced in Malaysia and elsewhere who’s entire or a major portion of the content is connected to the publication date or the language used. Another national intellectual treasure is Malay Manuscripts, and one of her manuscripts, Hikayat Hang Tuah, has been recognised by UNESCO in the Memory of the World Register.

The National Library of Malaysia aspires to be an exceptional and leading library in the area, capable of providing and channelling reference and research material in various media to all levels of society in the country.

The Institute's goal is to ensure that all Malaysians, regardless of status or location, have equal access to library services and facilities, as well as the ability to use Malaysian and global intellectual heritage through the nation's infrastructure of electronic libraries, and to make a national collection of library resources available for present and future generations.

The National Library attempts to construct strategic partnerships with relevant agencies in order to consolidate the nation's library and information services infrastructure, and it develops standards and criteria for the establishment of Centres of Excellence in specialised disciplines of information.

PARTICIPTION FROM OTHER BODIES (NLM)
The NLM also begins resource sharing through collaborating with academic libraries. The Conference of University Libraries and the National Library of Malaysia (PERPUN) is the most notable consortium. It is a venue for collaboration among the Chief Librarians of public universities and government-linked universities, as well as the Director – General of the NLM. Many collaboration initiatives have been carried out between the NLM and university libraries, including the Malaysian University Library and the National Library Network (MyUniNET). MyUninet is the official name for the PERPUN Portal, which is a portal to the sole information resource for Malaysian universities and may be accessed at http://perpun.upm.edu.my/. Malaysian Information System Librarians (My Syl) and Malaysian Online E – Resources Consortium (MOLEC) are in charge of developing material for MyUniNet Portal. The NLM portal http://www.pnm.gov.my/ is linked to PERPUN's Portal http://perpun.upm.edu.my/ as a reference source for obtaining information and resources through ILL services.

BENEFITS (NLM)
There are several advantages to visiting the National Library Malaysia. They offer a nice online catalogue of over 750,000 goods, so you can see what's available before you go. Members are the only ones who can borrow books. It is simple and free to become a member. Simply fill out a membership form and provide some identification (MyKad/My Kid/Passport). Non-Malaysian residents of Malaysia can also join. Members may borrow up to three books for a period of three weeks.

- Visitors are not permitted to bring bags into the locations where the books are kept (too many stolen books I imagine). Bags can also be safely stored in the Lockers.

 
FUTURE PLANNING (NLM)
The National Library Malaysia's long-term goal is to make a national collection of library resources available for use by current and future generations. NLM will allow national – wide access to library materials accessible inside the country and abroad, as well as providing leadership on library-related issues. NLM will also expand its collaboration with professional and other entities at the national and international levels to promote the growth of libraries.

The Online Computer Library Center ( OCLC) is a global library cooperative that provides members and the general library community with shared technology services , original research , and community programs. OCLC is the largest and not- for- profit library cooperative in the world. It promotes cooperation with libraries in cataloging , inter-library loans, virtual referral , digital archiving , and other services. The OCLC also conducts research that helps institutions to cope with the most difficult challenges.

This guide serves as an introduction to the Southeast Asian collection housed in the Library of Congress's Asian Reading Room. It also emphasises other Southeast Asian materials available at the Library's over 20 reading rooms and research centres, which give research space and direction for users to interact with items depending on subject (for example, law) or format (e.g., maps, photographs). The Southeast Asian collection of the Asian Division houses the Library of Congress's early Asian-language acquisitions. Since 1866, when a small number of Malay manuscripts were brought to the Library, the collection has grown to about 370,000 volumes in nearly 100 languages, 86 of which are unique to the region, plus Southeast Asian material in other reading rooms. Books, newspapers and periodicals, rare books and manuscripts, digital collections, electronic resources, and web archives from and/or about the eleven Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and, most recently, Timor-Leste. Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam are particularly well-represented in the collection, which reflects US involvement in the region. While the Southeast Asian collection houses the Library's early Asian works, significant collecting began in earnest until after 1945. The US government's fear of increasing communism in Southeast Asia prompted a hunt for information on the region in the 1950s. The Library's regional office in Jakarta opened in 1963, allowing for a significant rise in acquisitions. The subsequent establishment of branch sub-offices in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and, most recently, Burma/Myanmar, boosted collection in the region. Beginning in the late 1960s, the Library began acquiring works directly from North Vietnam (as it was then known).

The indonesia Library Association organised a National Workshop and Seminar from 5-7 November 2001 in Jakarta.CONSAL Secretariat presented a paper on “CONSAL Website: A Communication Forum among Librarians” at this seminar

 

- Malaysia

The main objective of this conference is to focus on various issues related to collection development of libraries particularly academic and special libraries in the Asia Pacific region.

CONSLUSION
As the research has demonstrated ,the Southeast Asian collection includes books on ethnology, literature, religion, society, language, gender, and the environment, among other topics. The history, economics, and government sections of the collection are particularly outstanding. Its publications on lesser-known Southeast Asian languages are a valuable resource for learning about the region's diverse cultures and peoples. Southeast Asian language works created in the diaspora are becoming an increasingly important part of the collection. The Indonesian collection is the Southeast Asian collection's single largest component.

BLIS is an electronic library that provides a variety of local information and news inmalaysia obtained by BERNAMA since 1968. The website was launched in 2001. The manager of the BERNAMA information center and library stated that there are over 3 million articles in the BLIS archive. among them are the statistics department, economic research institutes and more than 5,000 profiles of leading national figures. Important information such as speeches by Malaysian political figures, sector reports, data banks, facts and figures, directories and calendars can also be accessed.
