Winning is essential but not the most important, losing also comes with its benefits. Losing means that we can learn from our mistakes and how to overcome these difficulties. Winning may give you confidence but you can only progress and sometimes miss out on the errors you have. Many world record holders or world athletes have been through thier hard time and have definately lost, none has been on the podium for thier entire career but from losing they will be more determined to climb back up onto the podium and this is what makes them enjoy thier passion. If one is winning for thier entire life some may get bored, so bored to the point that they may even quit the sport and lose thier passion for it. Winning and losing is just the outcome but the process and hardwork is what matters. Sometimes doing something you love may not be enjoyable but when u realise that you have made progress, you will realise the difference which will cause you to continue to work hard and attain a win.

I agree that winning is the ultimate goal in a competition, however, having sportsmanship and the experience that is being gained is more valuable than anything else. Although winning a competition may make us feel on top of the world, it is important to note that if we do not win with dignity, there is no value in winning. What is more important is the experience that we gain from the competition, such as how we can improve from our mistakes and the bonds that we have forged with others. For example, At Formula One's 1973 Dutch Grand Prix, Britain's Purley abandoned his car after seeing Williamson, competing in only his second race, crash spectacularly.

As ill-equipped stewards stood by, Purley tried desperately to put Williamson's burning car back on its wheels before grabbing a fire extinguisher in a vain attempt to put out the flames. In this example, we can see that although Purley could have ignored the situation and continued his race in hopes of winning, he decided that helping a competitor out was more important. This is a great display of sportsmanship and Purley could have potentially forged a great bond with Williamson by his actions, which is more commendable than winning the competition. Hence, having sportsmanship and learning from the experience plays a huge part in a competition, and winning is not the only factor that determines success.

Although Feliks Zemdegs, a 3-time world champion, has very little chance of becoming the Worlds winner again due to his novel employment and busy adulthood, he still practice his Rubik’s cube solving skills and hopes for the best results in the competition. Even when his results aren’t as well as expected and costs him his victory title, he still try to improve the situation.

Winning, the clear basis of every competitive game. The sheer competitivity invites both an audience and the competitiors and propels it into prominence. However, with such an enticing goal at the pinnacle of these competitions, we often luxuriate such transient possessions far too much, turning a blind eye to the other amalgum of aspects thats constitute what a competition really is. At the surface, all that defines a competition is the potentiality of glorious victory, however, outside of this commonly perceived notion, what many don't bat an eye to are the experiences made along the way to its advent.

Cubing has many benefits one of which would be keeping your mind active and in shape. Cubing challenges your planning as you need to understand how certain actions may change the final results. Unlike 2D problems such as sudoku, a rubik cube is a 3 dimensional object so it requires one to look at a bigger picture, the entire cube, and analyse it in order to solve it. Similar to math, cubing helps with pattern memory as it requires one to recognise certain paterns or algorithms that have simple solutions to get to the objective. This helps the mind recall back past experiences when solving the cube so that the same steps can be applied to solve the cube once a pattern has been identified. Thus helping to keep the mind active.

Winning is not important in a competition because it does not represents success in every way. For example, although max did not win the world championship, but along the way, he met good friends like Felix who congratulated max’s success in various competitions. He also bonded deeper with his parents as his parents supported him throughout his competing years. His social abilities improved once he started participating in Rubik’s cube competitions. In addition, there was once he lost in a competition and he was devastated about it, but his loss taught him to lower his ego and work harder. He picked himself back up and practiced even harder until he was selected to represent his country for the international competition. Hence losing made him have a drive and purpose as he evaluated himself and made adjustments and improved his skills that did not work well earlier. In summary, winning does does mean everything, although you get the legitimate award, but the more important factor in a competition is the good experiences that you had gathered and the invaluable connections that you had forged with people who may help you in the future.

“The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well.” - Pierre de Coubertin. Just a few months ago the 2021 olympics concluded. Despite the fact that over 500 competitors world wide took part, only a few walked away with medals. Even though there were much disappointment, the olympics concluded with a plethora of heartwarming moments. Just like what Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the Olympic said, the experience and moments while fighting and not giving up before, during and after a competition is more meaningful than winning it. Though winning may be the main focus of any competition, it is not as important as the competition itself.

It is the journey during a competition that is more important than winning itself. While we may all agree that winning does feel good, it is the journey behind it that gives it meaning. The hard work and determination spent leading up to the final moment, making life long friends and rival as well as reflecting on what could have been better and learning along the way. Such would be the story of Max Park, a world record cuber. Born with autism Max was bad at socialising and had difficulty with motor skills. As such his parents gave him a rubik cube in hopes of strengthening his motor skills. Too their surprise Max picked up the skill extremely fast and slowly got better at it, this was when his parents decided to take him to compete. This competition was more towards learning social cues and how to communicate rather than winning. Slowly from there on Max began participating in more competition and broke several world records and made life long friends along the way. That is infinitely more valuable than winning.

Like all things in life, competitions are not entirely about being serious and only wanting the gold. If we do that then we ultimately loose out on the fun within the competition. In secondary school, I was the top dancer in my cohort. I was chosen to go to my very first competition due to my proficiency and grace in my routine. I trained every week as I was always aiming for gold. Even up till the very last minute I was preparing myself for my performance. And as soon as it started it ended. The results came out and I won. Though looking back I would consider this experience to be a loss. In the process to acheieving gold I lacked in having fun and learning about the experience, all I got was a hunk of metal that meant nothing. Though competitions have that intensity and serious attitude lingering in the atmosphere it is best to let go have fun and make happy memories wether or not you win.

In a nutshell winning is not always the most important thing in a competition. It is the journey and the memories you make along the way that counts. Competitions are more than just winning. It is a space where one can meet new friends, learn and grow as a person. It is more than just winning, baring similar resemblance to life; with many minute and major setbacks and success.

I do not think that wining is the most important thing in a competition. The main purpose of a competition should be to build character. I feel that we should attend a competition with a mindset to improve on ourselves and see our true abilities. Although wining may build up our confidence, this should not be the highlight of the competition. Ultimately, the thoughts that should be running through our minds after a competition, regardless of the outcome is whether we have put in our upmost effort and what we have learnt from the experience. This was shown in the 2018 national speedcubing competition where Max Park did not win as anticipated by the audience, instead he met many new people which improved his social skills and learnt new stuff.

Winning is what most people will aim for in a competition. They want to be recognised by others after putting in a lot of efforts into the competition, they want others to look up to them. However , in my opinion, winning is not the most important thing in a competition. The experiences that you gain from it is more valuable, where you meet new faces , learn tips from others and also learn from the mistakes that you made which made you unable to get to the top, making sure you won’t repeat it . There are still chances for you to showcase yourself and I believe that there will always be a place for you when your ready .

Improves problem-solving skills. The main way to solve a rubik’s cube is to break it down into many different segments and solve each of them which will impact your next move. This is similar to the way we solve real life problems and issues, if we fully utilise this technique, we will be able to see the patterns and allow ourselves to solve problems more easily.
