On the outside, he is bold like the color red and is noticed when out and about. He gives off negative energy as he speaks to those around him like they are below him due to him being in the 1% of rich people, at his house the French windows would glow gold. His affection towards others is not shown, his relationships do not satisfy him, so he is always looking for different opportunities wherever he can but not caring whatsoever about the consequences. He displays a good personality on the outside but on the inside he is quite the opposite. For example  he says “Now, don't think my opinion on these matters is final," he seemed to say, "just because I'm stronger and more of a man than you are." He makes people feel small to inflate his self-importance.
     Lastly, he looks for establishment from others on the inside. For example,  "...while we were never intimate I always had the impression that he approved of me and wanted me to like him with some harsh, defiant wistfulness of his own. He was acting like a 4 year old always wanting to be seen by their parents on what new skill or tick they had just learned, in order to impress them.

I related to the way Tom was seen through his money. How everyone thought just because he is rich he was snobbish. I am not relating to the part of Tom that makes him so egotistical. Some people today still judge other people based on their social class, and it is saddening to see because one person with a bit of money does one thing selfishly and now that's the way people start to see all people with money. For example a buddy of mine wanted to hang out at my house and bring a few of his friends. Later after they left my friend told me that when his friends got to my house they thought I was going to show off everything I have, because I am part of a white family that is somewhat wealthy. Frankly this got me kind of mad how they just saw my house and immediately assumed how I and my family lived. There are probably many more connections that I will be able to make throughout the story. Those are just the ones I could see currently at this stage of the book and I am looking forward to making more.

The  East Egg people live a frontage life like characters Tom and Daisy do. West egg is the place of old money, where people whose wealth was passed down to them, for example Nick and Gatsby. Lastly New York connects all the people, since identity’s are not seen as easily and are faked here people write their own stories. They act like actors where they are the main character of the story. From this They are having an affair which I think personally is horrible and the crazier thing is that they don't call it as it is. "It's really his wife that's keeping them apart. She's a Catholic, and they don't believe in divorce.". From this one could see how these are just excuses to keep it somewhat of a secret affair. Also we get to see how big the the issue of the social class is as we see how some character act in order to seem more classy in front of others. For example, "These people! Jordan states "I hate careless people. That's why I like you." She never wants to meet someone like herself. Status gives her in her mind the right to not care for others she thinks are below her. Nick despite his class is driven by his morals no matter the class. Jordan is very reckless and oblivious to the damage their carelessness causes. Jordan relies on the environment to conform to her needs, and expects others to over look her actions. Her entire class has been catered to. That is why people in her class such as the man with the owl spectacles had the audacity to look around Gatsby's’ library and the men in the accident did not face investigation. Jordan may have displayed the same behavior in her game if cheating the accusations were true. Her social class has made her accustomed to getting anything.

He is a very modest host and he mostly looks out over all his guests and doesn't partake in the party activity's.  As stated "my eyes fell on Gatsby, standing alone on the marble steps and looking from one group to another with approving eyes". Also we learn that he wasn't drinking in order to keep his own composer. So we see that Gatsby isn't your normal host, he just makes sure everyone is enjoying themselves. So with that we now know he has a bit of a mystery to him still. Mr. Wolfsheim is a criminal who never got caught, but that makes us turn to Gatsby and raises a lot of questions. Why is Gatsby hanging out with someone a criminal? Does Gatsby possibly have something to do with Wolfsheim? Did Gatsby help in any crime? It even makes me wonder about the story that Gatsby told Nick about how he acquired his wealth. It obviously seemed like a lie, and considering he is friends with someone like Wolfsheim, it raises my eyebrow and makes me wonder if Gatsby’s wealth comes from something else. We have the police incident. Could Gatsby be using his wealth to blind law enforcement from potential criminal activity? Gatsby is clearly putting on a face for people during his parties, but it’s hard to believe that something isn’t going on in the background. Hopefully going into the next chapters, these questions will be answered.

Gatsby was going too fast and they get pulled over by Officer. As the police officer approaches them to ask them some questions and Gatsby reaches for a card and show the police officer. The police officer apologies and allows them to pass. Gatsby tells confused Nick that " He was able to do the commissioner a favor once." This says a lot about Gatsby's character and also about the corruption of the police department. This makes me think is Gatsby dangerous if he his able to scare the police. He feels like he is above the law and never goes the speed limit. This leaves us to wonder what else he is getting away with besides speeding?

When Gatsby stars out at the green light once again, he says ""If it wasn't for the mist we could see your home across the bay, you always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock." The green light was introduced in chapter 1 as a representation of Gatsby's dream that he has not yet reached. So in chapter 5, he says that the previous dream he longed for in chapter 1 has lost its significance. So I think that Gatsby means that the meaning to the green light has been lost since he reached his goal of meeting of Daisy. The color green reflects Gatsby as a character because green in The Great Gatsby is associated with desire, goal, craving, dreams, but it also shows his greed in how he will be fixated on a specific thing until what he wants is done. As his character builds throughout and I find out more things about him, my respect for him gets higher. I think that Gatsby is a much better match for Daisy than Tom is. I mean cause after all this time, Gatsby has worked so hard to be everything that Daisy would want and need. We can see that Gatsby genuinely cares for Daisy, and that fondness is so much better and healthier than Tom basically breaking Daisy's heart when he constantly cheats on her. Being in Daisy’s position must be so hard on her, she basically broke down crying when Gatsby was showing her his luxury clothing saying that, “They’re such beautiful shirts. It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such—such beautiful shirts before.” I kind of felt bad for Daisy because she obviously somewhat regrets her life choices and it is kind sad to witness her showing her feelings like this. We see how Gatsby is a very untruthful man no doubt. He has lied about pretty much every detail of his past. Where he came from, his family, and even his own name. He had told Nick he inherited money from his deceased family. Which isn’t truly the case. His family was a bunch of poor farmers, so they didn’t have that kind of money. Gatsby or Gatz has lied about the majority of his upbringing and his life, except for the part where he fought in WWI, which is the truth. But all these lies really portray him as a bad person. “I suppose he’d had the name ready for a long time, even then. His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people—his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all... So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen-year-old boy would be likely to invent,” (Pg 105 The Great Gatsby).

One can see his jealousy reflecting when he is aware of Gatsby's’ status and his effect when around his wife. Throughout the party that Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom attended, Tom seems to watch Gatsby with great interest. He is very angry and says that Gatsby is a bootlegger. Tom is picking up on the connection between Gatsby and Daisy. I have realized that throughout the novel Tom does not treat people in a kind manner. He is full of double standards. Tom has shown that he is egotistical and self-centered, not caring about other's feelings. He holds very little respect for Daisy and Myrtle because at the same party he was chatting with other women which could be seen as disrespectful. Tom is like a sponge he sucks up all that he needs from those around him and moves on to the next group that could get him what he wants or for something that will benefit himself. Daisy is the only one he could not leave behind. Although it may seem like Daisy cannot feel the insatiable void that Tom has, he can not seem to let her go so she can't  thrive.

    Gatsby is not just in love with daisy, he is obsessed over her. he has not stopped thinking about her since they met. " Five years next November". She is in love with him but she has a lot of conflict with loving Tom at one point and loving Gatsby. On the other hand Tom also loves Daisy and we can see this in his emotions, The point of conflict is that he is having an affair with Myrtle, so that shows him being un-loyal. Nick I would say doesn't love anyone but be cares for other characters, like Daisy he cares for her wellbeing. through out the novel love is seen so much and by multiple people. For some its obsessive for others its true and sometimes its a sort of envy and fakeness. I believe it really shows you a lot more into Gatsby’s life and it makes you wonder still, how did he get his money? From being the son of poor farmers to a rich man. Gatsby seems to be a very motivated man and has a strong drive for the things he wants. However, near the end of the chapter when he was talking about how he wanted the past to return, it shows readers more about him, “‘Can’t repeat the past?’ he cried incredulously. ‘Why of course you can!’” Gatsby seems to have the mindset that he can achieve anything he wants with enough work and passion, which is a bit scary because with a man with his power to what extent will he go to get what he wants. Daisy on the other hand, at the end of the chapter, she seems to be longing for Gatsby, scared if those 5 years of devotion for her would go away if he had caught the glimpse of someone else. As you dive in and look closer into the cover you see some very interesting aspects that are in the story itself. Also with face being the most prevalent thing over the party below, this could show that Daisy meant more to Gatsby than anything. Which leave how will Daisy react when she was the one who caused all this death. The biggest connection between all of them was they wanted to become rich. Some got that goal fairly fast and others did not throughout the book. The thing that interested me was how important money was to all of them and how full of greed everyone was, always trying to get ahead of others even if it meant hurting someone else's reputation. So with this sayin of the American dream there's a huge part of that, that is almost like survival of the fittest and how you have to be ruthless in order to achieve anything out of the world for your own personal benefit. “...Tom's outburst shows that old money is insecure about the rise of new money by the time he was talking about the book ‘The Rise of the Colored Empires’, which makes old money feel as if the world was falling apart”.

Given the events of the other chapters before this, I feel like this chapter was the most calming one but also the most sad. This chapter explained what happened after Gatsby’s death. In my opinion, it’s one of the saddest things that I realized Gatsby seems like a good person. Sure there were some things wrong with him as a person, like the fact that he never seemed like he loved Daisy, but loved the distant memory he had of her. Though that may be true, Gatsby still deserved people to care for him, and what I believe was sad to think about was that he did everything he did for Daisy, and after his death, she didn't go to his funeral, “Nobody came.” . The only person that truly attended Gatsby’s funeral was Nick and Gatsby’s father who was barely introduced the given chapter. I still believe it’s that Gatsby was at maybe a happy point in his life too and died of a misunderstanding that was influenced by Tom Buchanan.

The movie is the perfect example of greed in people and how it affects them. In the Lorax we see that after the character gets a feeling for getting rich and lots of money and fame, he gets caught up in it and ends up using up all of the product supply. After that all his family and fans and rich's left and fell apart. Then we see that he becomes rejected by society and has no one who cares about him once he stops supplying the community. This ties into the book more toward the end at Gatsby when not only showed to his funeral all the people that attended his parties or those who said they were his friends. Also it connects to how Daisy just left and went on with her life after Gatsby's death and just shrugged it off as if he meant nothing to her. So once gatsby died and intern stopped through ink parties no one cared they just went back to their normal lives and did not care that gatsby's glamorous parties had come to an end forever.

From the numerous examples in the text with Gatsby trying to use his money to throw all these parties to impress Daisy but it did not end up the way he thought. From experience money doesn’t always make everything better. An experience that I had was going out with friends to the beach. We were headed home and wanted food so we stopped by a nice restaurant for food. The thing is that it took forever and the food was not even that good, also the bill was much more than expected. A few months later we did the same thing and decided on going to a taco truck. The tacos were by far some of the most delicious tacos I have had in a while and they were only about 2 dollars for 3 tacos. So from this money does always fix your problems and make things better. It is not much different from today's society. We see it with celebrities, politicians and many more people, with expensive cars, houses, and vacations. It's all done to flaunt their wealth. It's all done to boost their egos with their material achievements. We also see the egos of people in the books and in today’s world, people always are trying to make themselves look good and also when they feel belittled they get defensive and angry that someone makes them feel small. In today’s time we see people post things on social media which can make someone feel small and or disrespected which allows for the person who posted to feel above them.
