Green infrastructures are different systems put in place to mitigate or reduce the amount of stormwater in an area. Some examples of green infrastructures are permeable pavement (easy to pass through), rain gardens, and green roofs. These green infrastructures are beneficial to both the human and environmental well-being by reducing the risk of flooding, filtering stormwater, and improving air quality. Additionally, these infrastructures create a space to restore and rehabilitate ecosystems that may have been impacted by these floods. As for human benefits, some infrastructures reduce noise and air pollution while providing a type of recreational area.

Image by David Mark from Pixabay

Flooding is an excess amount of water that covers land that is either flat or dry. For example, land that is made of less permeable pavement, such as concrete, would have a harder time getting water to pass through. This causes the water to stay on the flat land, also known as a flood.
