It is geographically split up into 4 zones: the Coastal Margin, Guadalupe Plateau, Marikina Valley & Laguna Lowlands. The area of Metro Manila is 619.57 square kilometers (239.22 sq mi) wide. According to the Census of Population done in 2020, there are currently 13,484,462 people living in this area. In this population, 50.5% are males while 49.5% are females. It is also seen that around 27.2% of the population is aged 0 to 14 years old, 68.9% of the population is aged 15 to 65 years old and 3.9% of the population is aged 65 years old and above. Since the capital of the country is located here, it is the center of trade and commerce. According to a study done in 2018, it accounts for 36% of the gross domestic product of the Philippines. Nowadays because of COVID, everyone wants to bring their own car because they are afraid of using the public transportation available., but even before COVID was present people were still reluctant to use light rails, buses and taxis due to it not being maintained properly. Based on the 2015 Global Satisfaction conducted by Waze, Metro Manila has the "worst traffic in Southeast Asia".

According to TomTom’s annual traffic index, Metro Manila traffic ranked second in 2020 with drivers expecting to spend an average of 53 percent extra travel time being stuck in traffic.

Metro Manila has the second-worst traffic congestion in the world among 416 cities in 57 countries, technology specialist TomTom (TOM2) reported.

In 2020, commuters in the capital city of Manila in the Philippines lost about 188 hours per year driving in rush hour.

A positive effect of this would be that there will be less cars on the road, meaning that there would be a reduced amount of traffic compared to if everyone brought their own car. Especially in the capital city, there would be nothing but establishments left and right. Rightfully so, because it is the capital meaning it is the most well known place of the area. There are only so many trees that can be seen, and if there are any, most likely some type of construction is happening there. Not only does this destroy the natural habitats of wild life, it leads to the area becoming more flood prone as well.

In Metropolitan Manila, the top 3 regions were responsible for 58% of all tree cover loss between 2001 and 2020.

About 20% of Metro Manila is designated as flood-prone.

Logging in general or clear cut logging involves cutting down all the trees in a certain area, this has a negative impact because it denies a chance for younger trees to grow.
