Lesson: Launching the LC Workshop

Description: The teacher is to read aloud to the students.  The book is titled, “You Have to Write,” by Janet Wong.  

Discussion: Teacher and students will discuss how the author gave us many ideas of things that we can write about.  Also discuss the Jane Yolen quote about writing and explain why reading a lot makes us a good writer. 

Activity: Teachers are to pass out writing folders and pens.  Students will then write their names on folders and write a brief short paragraph about themselves.  (1-3 sentences)

Online Activity: After writing in the journal, students will go to the webiste http://rwtinteractives.ncte.org/view_interactive.aspx?id=722 and enter in their brief introductory paragraphs.  This website will be used as a tool to help students organize their writing information.   

Further: Teacher will discuss and share writing workshop schedule. Teachers are encouraged to show a short video clip of introducing writing-only after discussion has taken place.
