I always think of Native culture and dreamcatchers when people talk about cultural appropriation because I remember a friend I had from the community told me about the devastating impact big corporations had on the authenticity of dreamcatchers and the original purpose of them. Big name stores and companies exploited Native culture's creation of dreamcatchers and took profit from them, but also took originality and meaning as well. 
    3. The dark history behind boarding schools can be highlighted in children's literature, but many debate whether or not it should be explained to children. The dark history of boarding schools should be taught to children because it shows what not to do. All data has to be historically accurate and to a certain time period where evidence can still be relevant. Examples would be Indian costumes used for Halloween, it is not appropriate at all to wear because of the meaning behind their clothes.     2. I was able to read two childrens books that promote positive representation of Native Americans. (The girl who loved horses and Legend of the indian paintbrush.
    3. I learned how to evaluate positive representation in Native American Literature: Do they belong to a specific tribe, are characters portrayed as individuals with real thoughts and emotions etc.
    4. What cultural appropriation is: act of taking or using elements from a culture which one does not belong to and usually without permission, understanding and or respect for the culture's meaning and significance. 
    5. I learned about why it might be offensive to wear certain halloween costumes for halloween. Such as a hula dancer,“Indian”. As this is negative representation for cultures.

    2. I learned about cultural appropriation and how it negatively affects Native Americans. It can lead to an erasure of culture. It can also lead to the perpetuation of stereotypes. 
    3. Finally, I learned about the history of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a widely celebrated holiday in America, but it is important to consider how much damage was caused to Native Americans during Thanksgiving.
