Thunderhead and Scythe By Neal Shusterman

This first quote didn't really move along the plot, or play a super important role in the plot, but It really made a mark on me.In this situation the Thunderhead is basically doing a journal entry, and it said this. “How ironic, then, and how poetic, that humankind may have created the Creator out of want for one. Man creates God, who then creates man. Is that not the perfect circle of life?” This just struck me as so interesting, and a possibility I had never considered. It's so deep and so meaningful. At the same time, If you time travel, wouldn't you remember it? No, because that's only if you stay there the whole time, then that becomes your past, and you wouldn't have been created. This gave me many, deep insightful time travel thoughts, and although it's not that important to the plot, it really gives you a lot to think about in one simple sentence.

My next quote has more to do with the plot and characters, specifically Greyson and the unsavoury. This was said by the Thunderhead in another journal entry thing of theirs. “It’s my pleasure to be your displeasure.” This was very interesting to me, as the Thunderhead is talking about how unsavories by choice need to feel like the world is against them.. They hate the Thunderhead, even though it is the Thunderhead who gives them what they need to hate. It's a very interesting concept, that some people need to hate something to feel like they belong. What I find interesting, is that the way the thunderhead provides the displeasure, is quite intriguing. There are these themed clubs, and all the people except for the unsavourys are actors. These are places where the unsavories can be themselves and do crazy stuff that they can't do normally. The Thunderhead provides these things so that the unsavourys can have a place in society, and they hate it, but love it at the exact same time.. Maybe having a robot running the world isn't such a bad thing, It will never get angry, and it knows what we need, whenever we need it.

My last quote is pretty sad. It shows how the Thunderhead is almost all powerful, yet at the same time it is completely powerless. “Because rain is the closest thing I have to tears.” This is showing us how, because the Thunderhead cannot interfere with the scythedom, or even talk to it, it is powerless against it. This means that the Thunderhead, however they may feel about the scythedoms actions, cannot stop them. It is this rule of their own creation that binds them more than anything. Which I find interesting, because the Thunderhead also said the only things they wouldn't do was take life or create it. This means, that while the Thunderhead anticipates becoming all powerful in the future, they limit themselves when it comes to dealing with life. I wonder if the Thunderhead suffers from a crushing depression. All that pressure, bound by its own laws, releasing it in the only way it can. Weather.

Ben starts out having the fighting technique of a hamster and getting insulted very frequently by Erica Hale. He only was accepted into Spy School as bait for SPYDER. But because Ben helped solve the case, he knew too much so he ended up staying at Spy School. He doesn’t think he deserves to be there but he has solved multiple cases and outsmarted a very intelligent evil organization.

Ben changes by solving multiplemuliple cases and getting two girls to really like him. Ben didn’t seem freaked out when two missiles were heading right toward him at over 100 miles per hour. He stayed somewhat calm that whole time.

He has really changed from being a weak, wimpy teenager, to a tough, smart spy. One example of Ben becoming a smart spy is he was able to outrun an extremely tall bodyguard and sink the bodyguard into freezing cold water. He ended up killing the bodyguard and taking his machine gun. Ben also wasn’t freaked out when a helicopter exploded 50 feet away from him. Another example of Ben maturing and becoming more advanced is when he found a bomb the size of a microwave in the Climax Mine and was able to dismantle it without it blowing up.

“Good friendships are worth a little extra effort”

This quote shows that having a good friend can take some work and effort, but the friendship that it creates is worth it.It is meaningful because, one of the short stories is about Augusts’ childhood friend and how he has to be there for auggie in the hard times because he is with Auggie in the good times.

“One mistake does not define you,”

That quote shows that even if you make a mistake, you can always do better next time.also that life is made up of more than just mistakes, and when you do make mistakes, you can always fix them.

“Even the bad stuff, can often teach us a little bit about ourselves.”

This quote shows that you can learn from mistakes. Even if the mistakes cause a lot of trouble. The character this was said to was very mean to Auggie and in the short story about him he realized that he was the one who was being mean. He learned about what a bad person he was by looking back at his actions and trying to fix them.
