I’m currently studying at Bordeaux university to become a school counsellor, but I also graduated from a first master degree : I’m a French as second language teacher! 

I chose to study school counselling because I missed the social aspect in teaching. I really enjoy learning the psychology of teenagers and discovering the hidden aspects of the job. To be school counsellor, we have to pass a competitive exam, one of the hardest in the French education ! It also requires to complete a master’s degree.

I think we are really lucky to have our French education system compared to other countries. I had the chance to teach in Korea, and compared to France, it is really hard and stressful for the students...

 

Why did you start to learn French ? What is your main goal once you can communicate in French ? 

I feel pretty lucky to have known the university before COVID and had a real student life experience, but for people who hadn’t had that chance, I can easily imagine that the student life was – and still is – really poor. Even today, things are getting better but not very quickly, everyday life had really been shaken up.

I also assume that it was harder for pupils of middle and high schools, who had to give constant homework before final exams, unlike university students. I am afraid of the negative effects caused by the pandemic over the youngest pupils, who may have developed some stress or school phobias. I am also worried that CEO might think that our university degrees were “given” because of the context.

Dans la pratique, les enseignants ont utilisé une large palette de formes d'apprentissage et les ont combinées de manière intensive. C'est important de noter qu'en plus des cours en ligne, le processus pédagogique a également été assuré par la mise à disposition de matériel au domicile des élèves. Donc, les professeurs ont amélioré leur competences technologique. Malheureusement, les étudiants sont devenus paresseux et démotivés parce qu'ils ont trouvé un moyen facile d'obtenir de bonnes notes.
