Date: 8/26/2020

Review: A novel that illustrated the life of three sisters that go to visit their mother that left them to become a Black Panther and read poetry. This heartbreaking story takes place in California, where their mother is arrested later in the book, and the girls are left for themselves to lean on.

Age/Audience: This book is great for third through eighth graders that feel a level of neglect at home, a novel that they can relate to, but also find hope in.

Connection: I would use strategy 6.18 because the mother in this novel, Cecile, goes to neglecting her three girls to going to prison and having the girls fend for themselves, but also one of the girls goes to California a sweet child, to growing and mimicking her mother's footsteps by joining the Black Panters.
