I really enjoyed doing the café activity today, and I would use this as an in-class activity. I would do this for parts of a story or even classroom rules on the first day of school. When we went to the assessment with a partner today, it really opened my eyes to the planning that goes into these lessons and how much teachers have to manage all at once.

I would incorporate this into my classroom in a variety of fun topics to get my students thinking while staying engaged. I also enjoyed practicing the reading assessment that we did in class today. It helped me gain more knowledge of how I need to help my future students and to become more prepared. This really expanded my thinking about how to manage this in my classroom.

One takeaway from today that I could use in my future classroom is the cafe activity. I enjoyed the activity and found it to be engaging. I think it is a great way for students to have conversations and share their thinking about different ideas. I also think that the students will really enjoy writing and drawing their thoughts on the paper. One thing that expanded my thinking about literacy was the book-handling assessment. I learned just how much prep work goes into giving the assessment.

I personally really enjoyed the cafe activity completed in class this week. One takeaway that I would bring into my future classroom is the power of collaboration and team work. Not only was I able to connect with my peers and students that I have not yet worked with, but we were also able to work as a team to tackle the cafe activity. I was able to share my ideas with my peers and they were able to share ideas with me that I have not yet thought of, or would not have thought of. Each individual brought a new level of insight to the activity, allowing us to work strongly alongside one another. One idea that challenged my thinking was how culture affects the literary development of students. We often talk about how culture impacts the overall educational experience for young learners, however we have yet to focus on its impact to literacy skills.

One takeaway I plan on incorporating into my classroom is the cafe activity. The cafe activity stood out to me because of its high level of interactivity. Being able to move around, use colorful markers, and collaborate with other classmates helped me be engaged. I was able to expand my understanding of literacy by talking with my groupmates and seeing what others put on the posters. In my future classrooms, I want to incorporate the cafe activity so my students can be engaged while expanding their thinking. For younger students, I would encourage them to draw pictures and use two to three words. All in all, I admire this activity and hope to use it in my future classroom.

I really want to incorporate different forms of group reading. One idea from today's discussion that expanded my thinking of literacy was salient text; I learned more about it as well as how to use it with students properly.

I learned how important it was to incorporate read alouds, and print concepts together by either doing echo reading or choral reading with the teacher and the students. Another way I could do this is by practice writing with students. The most important thing that I took from the chapter is that all of the practices work together in concert to improve students skills. It is more effective to work on multiple skills together, than separate. (phonology, decoding, print concepts, and reading skills).

Its interesting to be able to hear everyones opinions on the questions. I love that we could either write the answer or draw it. I think this approach is perfect for students with different learning needs. The assessment that we worked on kinda opened my eyes to what we have to do to make sure our students are making progress. It also leaves me wondering how teachers can handle a rowdy class while doing this.

One takeaway I had from class discussions was the cafe idea. I really like this activity, because we were able to hear each other's ideas and experiences in the classroom and outside the classroom. I really liked the aspect of being able to doodle while we talked and being able to draw pictures instead of just words. I also learned how important it was to incorporate reading aloud because I believe it helps students see themselves in books and helps them relate and have the reassurance that their experiences and feelings are important and matter.

One takeaway I would use from yesterday's class would be the cafe activity. I think having something to do with your hands while listening or having a discussion is huge for some students. A lot of times, if you have something to keep your hands busy, your ears are better at listening, so you aren't so distracted with other things. For example, I played an audiobook for my 5th graders last year and printed out word searches and coloring pages related to the book we were listening to, which they completed while we listened.

One takeaway I have from yesterday's class is the cafe activity. I thought it was a fun and creative way to spark conversations and do review. Most kids learn best through hands-on activities, and this is a really fun way to provide that to them! The one thing that challenged my thinking about literacy was defining it in today's world. I never realized how different some people view the definition of it!

I feel that the cafe activity could be really beneficial for my future students. I think this can really have something for all the students, while mainly led by conversation those who prefer doodling can also have input. I liked discussing print concepts because while many of these things come naturally (reading left to right, where the cover is, etc) this is all things students need to learn and start with. This idea also tied into when we did the assessments because it's important to test where students are at in their knowledge and also being able to help your students learn and develop these skills.

I loved participating in the conversation cafe activity. It is a great way to take discussions a step further. It creates a creative and comfortable space for students to share their thoughts and ideas. This activity also provides choices for students on how they want to express themselves, whether that is through talking, writing, or drawing. The activity surrounding the assessment really helped put into perspective how it feels to conduct an assessment.

One thing I would carry into my future classroom is making sure students have different ways to share their ideas. Not every student feels good about speaking in front of everyone, so giving them choices like working with a partner or a small group can make it easier. That way, every student still has a chance to have their voice heard, just in a way that feels more comfortable for them. One thing that expanded my thinking today was when our group discussed resources for parents. I never really thought about how parents might not know the same strategies for literacy that we are learning now. By giving them simple tools or resources, they can support their kids at home too. It made me realize that part of helping students is also making sure families feel included and know how to help in their own way.

I thought this activity was going to be a little underwhelming but I liked the way I was able to get up and move and work with other people to think about the questions at each table. I feel like being able to write down or draw our ideas onto the paper AND being able to see other groups ideas was very productive. We were able to bounce off of those ideas that were already written on the paper to come up with a similar or entirely new idea.

With this, we were with a new set of peers to collaborate with, which is great for creating a safe classroom environment. I also thought that by providing a hands on part to the lesson, many learners would stay engaged in conversation more heavily. Along with this, learners who struggle with verbally forming their thoughts, can use the space to artistically show their understanding of the lesson while also being heard by their instructor. This was a great activity that I have not seen an educator do in the past, which is great to add to my teaching tool belt.
