It took a while for him to tell the truth, and he lied too much before that. I don't understand why he won't just tell the truth in the first place. I didn't Joel was honorable at any point, after the moment he agreed to go swimming, and from their on, he did not show that he was honorable. As I said before, although he did admit to being with Tony and seeing him drown, I did not think he was honorable even at the last chapter because if he was truly honorable he would of told his parents that Tony drowned to begin with, and not of kept it a secret until the end.
