In fact, that very siege and several other profound criminal activities, such as the growing Mindanaoan shadow economy, have led many foreign travelers to shy away from exploring Mindanao due to fear.

Such a phenomena has been observed during the time period of May 25-31, 2017 wherein 14 flights bound for Mindanao observed at least 5% of their passengers rebook their tickets or put them on hold. Additionally, Philippine Airlines president, Jaime Bautista, had also stated that declines from huge markets like Japan and S.K., as a reaction to the military turmoil, were seen in that very same year. These, and many other instances have led to visitor spending having dropped by one-tenths overall, and a 30% drop (from 94,961 to  72,972) of foreign tourist arrivals in Region X during a time period that extended into 2018, and many more.

According to the Davao city business owners interviewed in One Mindanao News, DTI offered loan assistance through the economic relief fund for those businesses who went bankrupt due to the global pandemic. Considering loan assistance would be of great help to those who would like to continue their businesses. Nonetheless, the interviewed business owners in the video declined the offer for some reason.

Having experienced the horror of the COVID-19 pandemic, we ordinary citizens of our community must take safety precautions in our day-to-day lives. For our future's sake, we must always take good care of our health. A society with physically and mentally healthy citizens can guarantee stable economic growth in the future.
