Step 1 - Get a Bachelor's Degree In English

I will consider colleges and universities that offer a Bacherlor's Degree in English. My options would be University of San Francisco and CSUN.

Step 2 - Earn a Master's Degree in English

After I have received my Bachelor's degree, I will apply for a Master's for English. During this time I will be focusing on a specialization of my choosing. In order to finally earn my Master's I would have to have completed dissertation on a topic of my choice, known as my Master's thesis.

Step 3 - Work with Students

While studying for my Master's I will also take the time and take advantage of my Master's program which offers teaching assistant opportunities. I will use this experience to become more comfortable in front of students and in a classroom setting.

Step 4 - Pursue a PHD

Since most professors have high degrees in their field, I will consider pursuing a Ph.D in English Literature. The Ph.D will take 6 years to complete.

Step 5 - Publish my Research

During my studying I will have considered writing articles in well-known journals in order to build my resume of research and a network of connections for my future employers. I will have also considered publishing and taking my research to turn it into a book.

Step 6 - Find a Job

After what would be about 12 years of studying to become a professor I will have finally have all the qualifications to pursue a job to become one. I can work my way up by looking at job postings at colleges and universities near me.

Now I am a college professor, more specifically, a Creative Writing professor. I teach students at Cal Lutheran how to write and express through poetry.
