Depending where I am, does my behavior change?

The environment I'm in can make a very big influence on my mood, which will impact my behavior. Work, school, home, with friends in public or with friends at home, it's all different. Maturity, patience, goofiness, decision making, are all changed. At work and with friends, I become very extroverted. I can be social and talkative, outgoing and open minded. At school and home, I tend to be more introverted and independent. I keep to myself, and enjoy the time to myself to focus on the things I need to do. According to research and science, the environment we are in can mentally affect us in 3 ways. First, it can facilitate or discourage our ability to be social. Secondly, it will affect someones decision making/influence to act. When my room is dirty, it makes me feel more careless and easier to leave another shirt on the floor. Lastly, the environment can affect our moods too. Relating back to when I'm at home, versus when I am at work. Studies have also shown that, colors of a room can also influence our moods, which I find is very true. Another article I read talked about how some small things can impact our impulse decision making in big ways too. For example, the width of our dinner plates can actually make you naturally put more food on it, just to fill the space. Environment does control my behavior.

When I don't get enough sleep, what happens to me?

Without sleep, fair warning you- don't test my patience. I am grouchy, and definitely a lot slower throughout the day. I tend to become a lot more sensitive and I cry more easily. In this video (tagged below) the lady says that sleep deprivation causes high irritability, and that small things that don't normally "set you off" would. The side effects of not getting enough sleep is totally scary, and can completely change someone's day for the worst. I also read in an article that sleep deprivation, once begun, only gets harder to get out of, as it is like a cycle. No sleep can cause anxiety, which leads to insomnia, and it only goes down hill from there. In another article, it shared that greater emotional activity is tied with sleep deprivation. In the brain, the amygdala (brain structure where anger/rage comes from) is more active due to the irritability you build- which all together just leads to a negative mood.

As a matter of fact, yes. When I am hungry, I am irritable and easy to set off. I tend to have more trouble focusing, and talking to people becomes a task. In the video tagged below, it talks about how different foods make you feel different moods. For example, pasta will make you feel sleepy or calm, or more alert- protein rich meals stimulate brain cells. That's why, when I have a late night snack, it becomes harder to go to sleep, because I feel more alert. I also read that science has tested flies, and found that hunger changes pathways in the brain. Proteins and amino acids manipulate and can control our mood and behavior. A study done on some men once by some students at a university found that the longer the men did not consume food, the more thoughts of food would consume them. So much, that it would be in their dreams. We really need food to stay focused and balanced.
