Subject- The song is about a man who throws a wild party and the morning after his girlfriend walks into the trashed house and her boyfriend passed out. She is fed up with his behaviors and walks out on him. Shortly after he starts thriving. He is winning vacations, on scratch off tickets and even a new four-wheeler. The idea this song is portraying is the idea that even though you may be single it will be okay.
Occasion- In the beginning he is at his house the morning after a party. He ends up going for a drive and stops at a gas station. He buys a scratch off ticket and ends up winning, soon after he wins a vacation off of the radio station. He goes to Panama and has a blast. All of these things he is winning symbolize that being single isn't as bad as it seems and there is still good
Audience- The audience is mainly directed towards people stuck in a relationship. The audience could also be directed towards people who have recently got dumped or broken up with their significant other. In some scenes of the music video it could be directed towards the girl, Luke's ex-girlfriend.
Purpose- The purpose of this piece is to show people who are stuck in a relationship that it is okay. It also can show people who have recently got dumped that the single life is good. Some things it shows is that being in a relationship may tie you down. Since after his girlfriend dumps him he begins to win vacations off the radio, money on scratch off tickets used for gas and beer and new attractive friends.
Speaker- The voice that tells this story is Luke Combs. He is the one showing how good the single life is.
Tone- The ultimate tone of this piece is happiness. Even though the thought revolves around a break-up, it is not meant to be sad. It is showing how he is getting over this rough patch with happier things. There is lots of things with money involved, winning scratch offs and different trips. He is a redneck and likes hunting and fishing. In the end he gets to do this showing how much freedom he gains from not having a girlfriend.

Lyrics- Ethos

The first example of Ethos shown in the lyrics are "everybody got their bibles." This line is showing the morals and values that the next door neighbors have. The father and his family walk out of the house well dressed and eventually head to church. He says the line about everybody having their bibles showing the well taught family morals.
The second example of Ethos is "Now she was sure real quick to up and apologize when she heard about my new found luck." This shows the character of the girlfriend and how her personality is. She is wanting to go back to her ex after he starts getting lucky and winning things.
The last example of Ethos is "I've been on one hell of a redneck road for three weeks now." This is showing his character by the way he spends his money on things. He started spending money on things that are materialistic. He is careless with his money and only cares about having fun right now.

The first example of Pathos that are found in the lyrics are "and the waitress left her number on my check with a heart/ she picked up on the first ring when I gave her a call." This is showing his new love that he is already finding. He is showing happy emotions always and continues to get lucky.
The second example of Pathos found in the lyrics is "won a four day three night beach vacation." This is another example of how much fun he is getting to have after the break-up. He can't even think about the girl when he is on all these other vacations and winning money.
The third example of pathos in the lyrics is "Then I won a hundred bucks on a scratch off ticket." Again, showing the luck he is having. This is telling how the scratch off ticket was a winner and he will celebrate another victory.

Overall Luke Combs does a good job of getting his point across that "When It Rains It Pours." This thought of still being okay after a breakup is explained throughout the whole song by using Pathos, Ethos and Logos. His lyrics show the things he has gotten after his breakup like winning money off a scratch off ticket, a vacation to Panama and a new four-wheeler. His video gives a visual of the things and the happy colors showing him single and thriving.
