Please click the link below to access video.
This Global News broadcast is reporting on the lack of tenant’s insurance in Western Canada, specifically Vancouver British Columbia. This video explains the high risk that a person takes when they do not choose to spend what works out to be no more than what a cup of coffee costs per a day to ensure that them and their belongings will be taken care of in the unfortunate situations of something happening to their unit.

<iframe src="https://globalnews.ca/video/embed/4139290/" width="670" height="372" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen scrolling="no"></iframe>

https://globalnews.ca/video/4139290/experts-warn-about-lack-of-tenants-insurance

This web page clearly lays out why it is so crucial for someone to obtain tenants insurance. One thing I found specifically interesting from reading through this web page is that if damage is done to your unit your insurance will not only cover the cost of the repairs, but they are also required to refund you for living costs incurred while having your unit fixed.
http://www.ibc.ca/on/home/rental-properties/tenant-insurance/

Please click the link below to access the video
This CTV news report tells the unfortunate story of a landlord having his property vandalized and stolen from, by his own tenants. This news report reflects on the risk that you as a landlord take by renting your home out, even after doing a somewhat thorough background check on his tenants the landlord still came into problems. Something that really stuck out to me in this video was that your insurance as a landlord will cover damage done to your property by a stranger but not damage done by tenant.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/landlord-horrified-by-tenant-damaged-house-1.3412521

This web article produced by the Toronto Star outlines two horror stories of renting from both a tenant’s perspective as well as a landlord’s perspective, but also gives some informative tips on how both a tenant and landlord’s can protect themselves from situations like the stories told ever occurring to them. One thing about this article that surprised me was that not all problems can be solved by going through insurance and that sometimes a court needs to be involved to get the problem dealt with accordingly.
https://www.thestar.com/life/homes/2012/09/27/my_tenant_wrecked_the_place_now_what.html

I think the most shocking thing I learned from reading this story was how little power you as a landlord can have against your tenants and that insurance does not help with those issues.
http://albertalandlords.ca/tag/tenant-damages/
