Teaching is tricky enough, with student absences skyrocketing. Teaching MLL students with inconsistent attendance is enough more difficult. When content is missed, it isn't easy to catch up with native English speakers. Catching up with MLLs is profoundly more difficult.

Often the MLL students continue to talk or be playful when the class is being spoken to as a whole.

One of the difficulties I experienced was the ensuring that they task was broken up enough for the MLLS. They needed additional processing time to understand the translation before they can even begin on the task. So continuing to make their learning engaging for them and no just reading off screen.

If alone with no one to translate I typically use translation apps that are on my phone to communicate. This method has proven effective to move forward with supporting families or scholars.
