I speak to my students about being open about expressing when they want to discuss their feelings. Whether it's myself, another adult or another child. I show students appropriate verbal ways to express their feelings. In my classroom we have an emotion talking piece. I use a stuffed animal called Mojo from ClassDojo. I chose this as my classes emotion piece because it's a familiar character for students. Students are able to pick up Mojo to show me that they need check in and speak to me.

There should be a mandatory safe spot in every classroom. Students should always feel that they have a space in the room that they occupy to destress or have some alone time. Safe spots should include things that make comfort students such as pillows, stress balls, emotion posters or think sheets.

Students who are sad won't perform well, students who are overthinking won't perform well either.

Community Circle is a strategy that can be used to address emotions in a whole group. As teachers we can be very busy throughout the day. I try to implement a 10 minute window when I can where I can check in with a student using my classroom emotion piece.
