I feel like Eliezer is not justified to lie. Even as harsh as it is, the Nazi's were able to take away the hope of many people, and they could kill Jewish people as easy as it is to take away their hope. Considering that the conditions are harsh and that they are not being treated well, including Stein, I feel like it would have been pretty obvious that they would be dead, and that he would feel worse in the end to find out that his family has died, which can harm him internally.

I believe Elie should've been honest with Stein instead of lying to him as a way or him to keep hope. Stein was going to find out either way that his family is dead, and even though it may be a sharp pain for Stein to process, Elie was not justified to lie

I think Elie is justified to lie to keep steins hopes up so that he doesn't give up on life, Elie's goal is to survive the concentration camp and Elie lies knowing that the most important thing is to keep Stein alive. Also Stein mentions himself that he is only staying alive because he believes his wife and kids are alive but if he knew they were dead he wouldve given up on his life

Eliezer should tell Stein the truth because when he find's out that Eliezer has lied the whole time he'll be depressed and not have any trust in him.

It would have been better for Elle to tell Stein the truth. Despite being sad, telling the truth would prepare Stein and perhaps allow him to feel a sense of responsibility for his children and live on. Stein is a distant relative, it's worse to hear the death of your children from a stranger then from family.

Technically Eliezer isn't lying because he doesn't know for sure that they are dead so what if he tell the "truth" and then Stein's family is actually alive he would've made another jew lose all hope

Eliezer is not justified to lie because this is elie's family and it isn't right to say that they are alive as bad as it hurts he should let him know.Even though his hope levels will most likely shrink its best to tell the truth.

I feel like Elie should lie. Imagine what stein would feel even though his family is dead. this may put his hopes down but he should be told the truth because they are already going through this living hell, but the truth is always better <3

Whether Stein found out during his time in the camp, or after, his feelings would still be the same and it would effect him in the same way (what I think), so I feel like Eliezer should have been honest.

Elie was correct to lie to Stein because if Elie did not lie Stein would have had no hope leaving him helpless and suicidal. It's more important for Stein to survive and not let the Nazi's win.

Eliezer is justified to a lie. Stein keeps hope about his loved one's being alive but Eliezer knows they can be dead, but because he know's Stein has hope he is going to stick to the lie.

Eli should be honest, so Stein wouldn't be even more upset if he found out that Eli's family was dead. Stein's stress will increase once known he was lied to. Stein may try to find them.

Eliezer should have given false hope since it's the thing keeping Stein alive. Elie's one goal is to live and survive the camps. Elie wants to help give stain hope so that Stein won't lose his hope and faith. We don't know if Stein and his family are dead or alive after.

I think he should have lied because since the only thing that was keeping people like stein alive was hope.although they knew what their fate was for them and the others they were still hopefull because they knew that this terrible time would be over soon and also he did not want to discourage stein.

Eliezer was justified to lie because the hope that his family was still alive was the only thing keeping him stable given the idea that his family is dead would take away all hope that he probably causing Stine to kill himself. If Stine was unstable than he probably wouldn't be where he was at the time.

Elie is not justified to lie, being honest in such a depressing situation is what he should do, and not give Stein false hope. crystal

I think Elizer justified not to lie because he is lying. He is getting his hopes just to know he and his family will die. Most liekly there is no hope for everyday 4,00 people die , you should tell him the truth.

I believe that Eliezer should just be honest. The Reason I believe this is because His family Is already in this situation. When Elie had seen the hanging of pipel he realised there was no hope left. there religion and practices had been taken away from the Germans, and they had no one to ask for help. It would be better to explain what the actual situation is.

Eliezer is justified to lie since stein was excited to see his hope and the chance that his family may be still alive so without it stein will be more hurt knowing that his family is not alive.(bianca)

I think that Eliezer isn't justified to lie because no body told him to not tell Stein the truth he made the choice of not telling him so he wouldn't feel any pain from learning his family is dead.

Eliezer is Justified to a lie because he was supporting Stein, as Stein is s hopeful his family is alive. Although Stein will find out later on, what their going through is rough so it is better to just be supportive then like drop the bomb on Stein who is hopeful

Eliezer Wiesel is justified to lie in this instance. He is able to lie because it is for the benefit of his friend to keep his hopes up. Also, if he would have told the truth, Stein would have gave up on life. These few pieces show how Elie Wiesel lied for Stein's own good and to keep on living.

I believe that Elie was justified to lie because if he does lie to people they might gain hope. When Elie told him his family was still alive he lied because he wanted to bring hope into him, he wanted him to feel more motivated to escape and find his loved ones. if someone was captured and taken away from their family knowing they still might be alive will bring them a lot of hope.

Eliezer can do whatever he wants, but in my opinion, he should lie. This is because if he told the truth, Stein would be so depressed. By giving him false hope, hes keeping potentially Stein alive. Also Stein might have mad at Eliezer.

Whether Eliezer had lied to Stein or not about his families death, I believe Stein would've still found out about his families death. In my opinion I believe Eliezer wasn't justified to lie about Steins families death and should've just been completely honest because it just delays the process of Stein soon finding out about his families death. When Eliezer soon did tell Stein his family "was alive" Stein had gained hope to see his family again.

He's not really lying because he doesn't really know, as the Jews have been brought with such uncertainty about their fate. Honestly, I don't really have an actually opinion, but Stein might of committed suicide if he found out from Elie or by himself.

It's kind of like he's lying to himself, and this is because he knows that the Nazi's can do harsh acts like kill most of the Jewish prisoners. Also, he knows that there are higher chances of Jews to die than survive.

Ellie is really trumatized bc he is still a boy in these deadly camps with the full hands of person (he can see with peoples lost of hope)

Eliezer sounds a bit sad about what is happening right now, so you can infer that currently, the tone has changed to a gloomy and sad mood. It shows that he has experienced these traumatizing events, and that there is a possibility that he could be next at any time. This is also why he repeats the phrases, “Never shall I forget”, and it is because of his experiences. This is supposed to show the reader a sense or warning and is reflecting a bad setting and mood to the reader as well.

He realizes that he has completely lost his faith to fight back, and that he just stands there still while realizing that he has been dehumanized. This shows that he had gave up, and that during the Holocaust, the Jews had gaven up on hope when the Nazi’s captured them very quickly. Although it is very noticeable, his father has to lie to him to make him feel better, but it is obvious because his cheek is sore-red.

Akiba has lots of hope, and he strongly uses his religion to power his hope, compared to Eliezer. He had an escape plan and he mentioned God in it, which is taking a big role in his personality and hoped to free everyone in the act.
