I grew up in a small German town close to the Dutch border. My father brought and sold cattle and my mother died when I was five. The Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933. During the early years  of the 🤬 regime, many Jewish-owned businesses were confiscated and Jews were barred from most professions.  In November 1938, after country-wide acts of terror and destruction were directed against Germany's Jews, Hanna's father was arrested and sent to prison.  The family was impoverished and trapped. Thousands died from starvation, disease, and exposure. Others were shot at the whim of the Nazis.  The Nazis rounded up their prisoners and gassed them in sealed transport vans. Hanna and other able-bodied workers were sent to a work camp. When the Russian army began advancing on the area, Hanna and other Jewish workers were shipped to labor camps in Germany. Forced to work at hard labor, Hanna was constantly cold, hungry and afraid. Realizing that Germany was losing the war, the camp commander arranged for his prisoners to be exchanged through the Red Cross. On May 3, 1945, seventeen year-old Hanna was sent to Sweden, and freedom. I was born a year after the Nazis came to power. My dad was a soldier in  World War I  and get deeply  wounded. He also  received the "Iron Cross" for his bravery.  On the night of November 9-10, 1938 my father got arrested and sent to  a concentration camp but was released a few weeks later. My family realized that we had to get out of the country but we had nowhere to go. Then we deiced to move into my mother's home town,  but soon my grandfather died. I had to ware a star on me when I went out to go to school.  On August 22, 1942,  me and my parents got  arrested and deported and forced to leave all of our  possessions behind.  We were sent to the disabled war veterans' section of the ghetto where they were allowed to stay together. There was little to no food and the sanitation was poor. We were able to get out of their alive after we where saved.

I was born on November 17, 1935. I live in Pestszenterzsebet, Hungary. I am the daughter of Eugene and llona Ringwald. My dad is a medical doctor. I go to a Jewish school with my friends. Oh no!!! The Germany is invading us and I am really afraid. I hold my mom's hand as tight as I can. We refused to go with them (Germany), but we were forced to go. I had to wear this ugly suit with a yellow star on it. In July, 1944 They have taken us. We were now in Auschwitz death camp in Poland. I can see my mom had tears in her eyes, and because I was scared, a tear fell down and touched my cheeks. Mom would always tell me she loves me. This night was the night to say goodbye to this world, the Germans came to the camp and took me and mom, while waking I smelled gas. I hated what I saw. There, My mom told me she was sorry and she loved. We both were put in a gas chamber and murdered. I guess this was a goodbye to this cruel world.
