Click on the + sign to create your own post and make sure you include your name!
To give you a kick start on brainstorming, this Padlet is meant to give you a space to start compiling ideas. Take a few minutes to make 3 different posts. Each post should be titled with a possible topic, contain some kind of media related to the topic (e.g. image, video, meme, or linked article), and some thoughts on why this topic is significant to you (e.g. how this issue affects you, your close friends and family, or your community). Once you have your topics, take a look through others' topics and give them some feedback. Let them know if you think the topic is too broad, or give them a Like if you think it's a great topic.

Also it is not mandatory for us in Texas to wear our mask, so I do not want to get sick from the people who are not wearing there mask who are not vaccinated. Also, with the restrictions with traveling if your not vaccinated you can not travel anywhere.

Corona virus came and it was declared a pandemic which prompt many countries to lockdown. This was in a bid to cut down the rate of which the cases were rising, as such, people were encouraged to remain indoors. This greatly affected the young children because they were curtailed from interacting the way children are socializing and also their language development is slowed. This is because children learn language the best when they are with other children.

Do learning styles really have much authority over what kind of information in the classroom is helpful as we had originally hoped?

Topic 1 - It seems as though we have been looking for something out of nothing for a long time. As long as you are looking for a white car on the road, you will always find a white car on the road. But… does that mean there are more white cars on the road than any other color? The same goes here. If we are constantly looking for any type of positive effects that changing our education curriculum based on learning styles has on our students, there will always be something to build on. However, there is not much, and if not, no positive effects at all.
I find this a very interesting topic, and I think I could easily expand on the reasons why all types of learning should always be incorporated into our education curriculum. It is very situational and dependent on the subject at hand. Overall, I think it mostly boils down to having skilled and flexible teachers who are able to impact all students of all personalities and learning abilities. A student who resonates more clearly with auditory content can still better understand a topic with the help of a few visuals, and vise-versa. No student has ever been knocked down with some extra content on a topic. While it might be more efficient to exclude the information that may not need to be explained, depending on the class, it should never be recommended to intentionally exclude information solely because we think it may not be helpful. That information especially is sometimes all a student needs for the understanding of an idea to click in their heads.

-Gwenivere Gugel

I recommend journaling for anyone and everyone- it doesn’t matter if you’re dealing with tough situations at home, or if you are in a really good spot on your life, it is always extremely beneficial to keep a journal to write in. It doesn’t even have to be consistent, and it doesn’t have to be about your deepest emotions, just whenever you need it and whatever fits.
In the article, it is said that this can immensely improve mental health, as well as a healthy dose of self-awareness and self-reflection. I have a very close friend of mine who is being sent to an inpatient hospital for her eating disorder, but she is stressing herself even more about the price of being there to the point where she thinks she can't go better herself . Mental illness is something you can not control and in most cases can not be treated on your own, but if they can not afford these costs of treatments, do they just have to deal with it ? There are several programs and such to help relieve these payments but only a fraction of thousands of dollars afterwards. I think this will be an interesting topic to discuss.

-Lori Dauphin

Is love between a lover and a friend different? Can love be toxic? I want to explore how love can affect the lives of those closest to us and how it affects our psyche. I am interested in knowing how differently affection can be expressed between individuals and if love can be disguised as anguish. I have experienced wholesome and bright love and also toxic and overbearing love, but what defines my experiences as being called love?

-Allaya Cantu

How Spirituality can improve your mental health

For topic 2 I will be sharing how practicing spirituality can improve one's mental health. There is a common misconception that comes when spirituality is mentioned. You do not have to be religious to be spiritual, it is about personal growth and understanding of ones self. There are many benefits to being spiritual, I for one started my spiritual journey a year and a half ago and I have become a better version of myself. Through journaling, meditation, and manifestation people can have more control over their emotions and reach their higher selves and find their purpose in life. I was in a dark hole of a place years ago, I wanted a change in myself and the amount of growth I have experienced since starting my spiritual journey is life changing. I think everyone is capable of changing and growing, to be able to understand ones self better and the feelings of those around them. When you reach your higher self you are able to have an understanding of why you are they way you are, and what makes everyone their own unique person. Spirituality has helped me connect with myself and those around me on a deeper more personal level because I am able to understand energies and emotions more. Spirituality can improve one's mental health by providing support and knowledge about yourself. It can improve self image, emotional understanding, promote deeper connections, and better emotional health overall. There are so many benefits to being open minded and exploring spiritual practices that more people should know about.

-Allaya Cantu

Should fitness courses be mandatory?

For topic 3 I will be talking about why physical fitness class should be mandatory in schools. I am currently taking a physical fitness/wellness class and I was not excited about it at first but thats changed. I think the reason most people dread physical fitness is because they do not believe it will improve their way of living. This can be changed, one of the main reasons for weight gain is lack of information of the side effects of being obese. As long as this class is mandatory in schools, teens will have more knowledge on how to life a healthier lifestyle. This course can help inform teens of how to eat healthier, how to achieve healthy immune systems, how to maintain a healthy weight, and improve overall mental wellness too. Schools every year have to fight for funding for physical wellness courses when there are so many benefits. I think it would help everyone to be more knowledgeable about what is healthy or not for their body to prevent unhealthy habits in body and mind.

-Allaya Cantu

We need to acknowledge student burn-out.

Topic 3 - One of the biggest challenges my generation faces today is what’s called “burnout”. Burnout is caused by massive levels of consecutive stress and can quickly lead you down a steep hill of depression, anxiety, physical and emotional exhaustion, and for students, academic failure. This is one of the reasons why so many students tend to drop out, and why so many (including the students who appear to be quick-witted) fail class after class. One of the biggest problems with this is the fact that the people who should be acknowledging this haven’t done anything about it.
There is nothing in our school curriculum that focuses on studying habits, work ethics, or even mental health awareness. The students who work relentlessly would do well with a reminder to take regular breaks, and the students who are struggling to find the time to study at all would be greatly benefited with the help of a teacher’s guidance of how to study effectively, and how to manage his/her time wisely. For now, we have been expected from day 1 to figure out everything on our own- including managing our own emotions, stress levels, anxiety rates, the kinds of notes we take (both mentally and on paper), and a multitude of other things. For people with depression and other mental disorders, burnout can be especially hard, particularly within our education system.
With how critical it is to our society to stay engaged and present within our own lives, it is surprising that there isn’t more awareness of burnout itself and how to avoid it. Information and broad acknowledgment of conditions like this needs to be made more easily available to students and to society as a whole.

-Gwenivere Gugel

I want to write about this topic because it exposes the reality of how children are traumatized in the entertainment industry. I've always been interested in this topic after seeing videos and other types media about what Judy Garland went through during the filming of the Wizard of Oz. I have also read things about Nickelodeon television producer, Dan Schneider, and how he traumatized some of his child stars, which has raised my concern for kids in the entertainment business.

Brenda Nieto

I would like to write about this topic because a lot of book-to-film adaptations have colorism within the casting. I think this is an issue that should be addressed because the film industry tends to gravitate toward lighter skin tones and Eurocentric beauty standards when casting for a movie. Despite if the book illustrates a character with having darker skin.

Brenda Nieto

How art contributes to our learning and how art is around us on a daily basis. All of that to say, many of us think of art as a luxurious or have to be this creative genius to create it and that could not be far from the truth. Art can be anything and everything, you just have to be open minded to it. i wish to incorporate that in my writing and how it contributes to our growth and having deep conversations and changing our perspectives on important issues.

According to the article, a majority of Americans in the workforce are unhappy or burnt out at their workplace. This problem comes with feeling underpaid and believing the monetary compensation you receive should be higher for the amount of work you're doing. I personally am one of those Americans. It can also arise when an employee has been at the job for a majority of their life and just get bored of it. Where I work, it feels like it damages my mental health due to the repetitiveness of the job and the numbness it causes to my brain, so I'd be quite passionate talking about this topic

-Diego Mujica

I believe that regular exercise and simply moderate dieting can help someone feel a lot better both physically but also mentally. The lack of nutrition awareness is a key issue for future research, physical activity and integrated dieting can help with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases as well as orthopedic problems and depression.
