We continued working on using quintuplets.

The exercise is to phrase in quintuplet feel with the metronome on 1 and 3. To master this, make up melodies or patterns made up of quintuplets.

These quintuplets can also be played more percussively, in order to make it easier and more distinct. Different types of articulation can be used, or a combination of quarter notes and 8th notes.

We used the Setembro track to see the importance of knowing how each interval within a chord sounds.

For example, the melody keeps going back to the 4th on every half diminished chord. A very typical sound which can be found in many songs. Once you added this to your inner catalogue of possibilities, you can use it whenever your imagination brings it up.

A) Keep practising the quintuplets. You can regroup them in different ways, for example:

Using this, you can make phrases of 2,3 and 4 syllables/notes

B) Listen to Witch Hunt and Oliver Nelson

C) Revise the Giant Steps chords (knowing them and understanding the sequence)
