Active (Manipulative/Observant)

One type of active learning experience I have had in the past is building a model. This technique involved me manipulating several pieces together to create a rocket for my physics class as well as using technology for instructions and researching. This was a well-done type of active learning as I was able to observe the ideas of acceleration and motion that we have previously learned in class through hands-on experience and technology.

Another type of active learning experience that I just recently had was a lab simulation website. This technique involved me using a website that simulated a lab with materials and instruments that you could manipulate and pick up. Again, this was also a well-done technique as I was able to observe chemical reactions and easily understand the procedures, even if it was electronically rather than physically.

Constructive (Articulative/Reflective)

One type of constructive learning experience I have had in the past is using a PowerPoint to teach new information to my class. This technique involved me designing a PowerPoint that displayed all the information I researched about the topic of a literature period. I would say this wasn’t the most effective and well-done technique as the process was a bit boring and I felt that I didn’t learn as much as I could.

Another type of constructive learning experience that I just had last semester was creating a website. This technique involved me creating a website for my development across the lifespan class that displayed applications for all of the chapters we had discussed. This was a well-done type of constructive learning as I was able to reflect on the information I learned at the end of the semester and proved to be an effective way to study.

Cooperative (Collaborative/Conversational)

One type of cooperative learning experience I have had in the past is a partner paper. This technique involved me and a partner collaboratively writing a paper together and discussing the material using Google Docs for our literature class. I would say this wasn’t a very well-done or effective type of cooperative learning as the paper ended up not being very collaborative as I wrote most of the paper and only received a small bit of help.

Another type of cooperative learning experience that I often had in high school was group projects using PowerPoints. This technique often involved our teacher putting us into groups and giving us a topic to present or having us analyze the reading material. This is sometimes a well-done technique as you got to work with others and hear their ideas, however, it was only a poor technique when some people chose not to help create the PowerPoints.

One type of intentional learning experience I have previously had and still enjoy is online review games. This technique involved using websites such as Kahoot and Quizziz to review and study the material we had learned in class. This was a well-done technique as it intentionally provided great help and gave us the goal of wanting to study and improve.

Another type of intentional learning experience that I had in high school was lesson planning using technology. This technique involved using websites such as Pinterest regularly to help plan lessons for my early childhood class. This was a well-done technique as it helped me achieve my goal of creating successful lessons and controlling how the lessons were taught.

One type of authentic learning experience I have had in the past was using technology to prepare for future life experiences. This technique involved using the internet to budget and plan a trip to a Spanish-speaking country for my Spanish class. This technique was well-done as it displayed the complexity of such situations and allowed us to learn how the process is done while also improving our technical skills.

Another type of authentic learning experience that I had in high school was using online articles and relating them to my class. This technique involved researching online articles of real-world situations that related to the material we were learning in my American Government class. This technique was well-done as we were able to apply the material that we were learning in class to the complex situations that were happening in our country.
