The writing traditions of China and the U.S. are passed down in very different ways. In China, classical literature deeply influences writing. Students memorize Tang and Song poetry from a young age and study ancient texts like The Analects and Records of the Grand Historian. Writing often values allusions, subtlety, and refined language. School essays emphasize rhetorical techniques, continuing traditional literary customs. In contrast, American writing education focuses more on individuality and creativity. Students are encouraged to keep journals, write freely, and brainstorm ideas in class. They grow up reading imaginative books like Charlotte’s Web and Harry Potter, so their writing tends to be more direct and personal. Persuasive essays stress clear logic, while narratives highlight vivid details.

Both traditions have their strengths—China’s values structure and accumulated wisdom, while America’s encourages innovation and self-expression.

In this Padlet, I am excited to share highlights of my writing journey, including my literacy autobiography, research paper, and reflections on how globalization influences the way people to write with their language. Each project reflects my growth and the skills I have developed along the way.
