Using these resources, I would incorporate these resources by modeling for students how to use them and help students work through their annotated bibliographies. Purdue Owl is a great resource for students to go to when they are writing their MLA citations, especially when it comes to citing other sources that are not articles (like an interview). Additionally, the guide to avoiding plagiarism can help students create citations and in text citations to avoid errors that can cause accidental plagiarism.

On this source document is the source analysis chart that can help your write your annotated bibliographies! Remember, for non-database sources, you need to also complete the CRAAP test at the top of the document. If you do the CRAAP test, you can use that information for your source assessment as well!

Incorporation - Annotated Bibliography & Source Document

In my classroom, my students write their own annotated bibliography for each of the six sources that they find that includes a brief summary of the source, an assessment of the credibility and reliability of the source, and then reflect on how they will use that source to support their thesis statement. These slides are what we take notes off of and help guides them to what is expected from their annotated bibliographies. It not only includes all of the requirements, but it also gives them reminders on format and helpful tips to keep in mind as they are writing their annotated bibliographies.

Additionally, the source document that is in that section is what students use to break down their source to find evidence and to prepare for their annotated bibliography. After their source annotations, there is a source analysis chart that guides them through essential questions for their annotated bibliography. If they complete this thoroughly, they can end up copying and pasting this into their annotated bibliography and just to some rephrasing/adding some transition words.

The outline that is here is what I use with all of my English 11 students that helps guide them through the process of writing their essay. It goes through introductions, body paragraphs, counter argument paragraphs, and their conclusion. This really helps students get their ideas neatly organized so they can write the best research essay possible.

All of these databases are great resources for students to find information for their controversial, persuasive research topic. Through these databases, students can have a good platform to start their research from sources that they know will be backed with research and that have reliable and credible authors/publishers.

Note - some of these databases are ones that my students have access to through our library database hub, but they are paid subscriptions, so others outside of my district may not be able to access all of these databases.

This is the thesis statement video that I have students watch when we write our thesis statement. This would also be super helpful to revisit if students need to change a reason in their thesis or if they change their thesis statement entirely (which does occasionally happen).

These are all helpful tools that help students have reference material while they are writing, and to edit their writing once they are finished.
