Sexism And Misogyny in Music:

http://www.houstonpress.com/music/sexism-in-music-media-the-problem-no-one-wants-to-address-8060415

In the music industry, there are very distinct differences between men and women musicians. Differences in lyrics, music videos, and portrayal of the signers themselves are almost overwhelming.

Some examples would be the fact that either it be in 2012, with virtually all common rap, pop, and country songs, more specifically "Whistle" by Flo Rida or 1944, with the song "Baby it's cold outside", men sing about the entitlement to women. Not to mention if you view the music videos for a lot of said songs, it contains a bunch of half naked women all over men.
According to Kristy Loye, most men in the music industry have the attitude of "we want to look at you, but not necessarily hear you" towards women.

I think this is based on the everlong idea that men are superior and that women exist solely to please men.

I think that this is very harmful for a couple reasons.
1) It places the idea into women that they are only good to be objects in a man's music video for them to gain views.
2) A lot of these sexist musicians tend to make catchy music that people want to listen to regardless of the misogyny just because it sounds good.
3) Other women, specifically women musicians feel they have to carry over these ideals into their own music and music videos. However I can say, that 2017 has been the year of the bos girls. We are starting to overcome this with music such as.Hailey most girl However some musicians are taking it too far as they are implementing hatred towards men in their music as well.

Sexaul Assault in the Music Industry:

http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/reports/music-industry-sexism-426585

In the article attached, Marie Claire writes about the very famous female musicians who were sexually harassed or abused, usually by music producers and other coworkers.

In the article it addressed how many of these women have contracts with their sexual assaulters that are basically impossible to break, such as Kesha with Dr. Luke who lost her case. But besides the entitlement these men feel they have through the contract, they also attack young women because they feel entitled to them simply because the women work for them, and therefore owe them. It's said best in a quote from the article which states: "A music industry boss will suddenly start groping [an artist] and she’s expected not to mind".

Another thing that women deal with in with in the music industry is that sometimes they will do anything they can to get to the top, and end up getting involved in a situation in which they are not comfortable in and often can not get out of. Granted this happens to all genders, all ethnicities, and all ages, but the focus here is women. That being said, this can happen to women in the music industry from their women coworkers or producers as well.

Women Executing Sexism

http://www.sheramag.com/reinforcing-sexism-women-in-music-videos/

Nick Burbridge explained in his article the differences between women's lyrics and music videos. He stated that because of this overpowering sexism and misogyny in men musician's, women have started implementing it in their own expressions. In his article he compared artists such as Nicki Minaj and Meghan Trainor. And while I may not agree with what he was saying, he stated that Nicki Minaj and a lot of other female artist portray their feminism in very misogynistic ways. His way of thinking was that, when women make videos and music in which they sexually objectify themselves, though he doesn't seem them as less of a feminist, he agrees with the fact that they are almost allowing the patriarchy to continue. When female artist write/sing about how them having a curvy figure makes them irresistible they are not beating sexism and misogyny in music, they are condoning it. According to Burbidge, most women don't know they are doing this. They just want to love themselves and teach other women to love their bodies as well, however because of sexism, it is taken that women have no respect for themselves. Burbidge states "Because women almost always are on the receiving end of this sinister (and often violent) extrapolation of objectification into nearly all areas of life, it’s unsurprising that even when they enjoy some of its attributes, they tend to take it far less seriously than men." This says to me that Misogyny and sexism in the music industry is dangerous/harmful because women often change, even when they don't recognize it, into the same patriarchal mindset.
