Target proficiency level is B1+, age group is 7th grade, learning context is travel,

Vocabulary analysis:

Vocabulary selection is appropriate and gives the students the right tools to form sentences, but the words with less frquency are introduced earlier than words with more frequency. Vocabulary items aren't revisited as far we can see. Difficulty level is not a problem as the vocabulary focuses on mostly concrete ideas.

Grammar analysis:

Grrammar is suitable for the learners and it is tought in a appropriate order.

Ada Gökduman, Özge Sıla Akkoca

Vocabulary Selection (5)

Vocabulary Gradation (4)

The given words are theme specific, some of them are not frequent but they are suitable for B1 level. Choose of adjectives and phrasal verbs are suitable for everyday use and many examples were provided for teachability. In terms of linguistic distance, Turkish and English vocabulary items are not similar to each other. The words given in the beginning are used in later speaking activities, so there is cyclical gradation.

Grammar Selection (4)

Grammar Gradation (5)

There are two distinct grammar exercises, adjectives ending in (-ed) and (-ing) and past tenses (past perfect, past continuous, past simple). The adjectives are teached as a new topic but we thought tenses were teached before since there aren't really an explanation. We thought that teaching adjectives to B1 students was kind of below their level. In terms of teachability it would be easy to teach and has daily communicative value. It is both used in spoken and written English frequently.

Esma Çelikbilek

Nazan Ebrar Kamcı

Our suggestions for the unit "wild animals":

Since they will be using the vocabulary for everyday usage we thought that the level of the vocabulary was suitable, but verbs were a bit more complicated. Since the unit is about wild animals the vocabulary heavily contained features of environment. The unit had variety of visual context and this enabled the teacher to teach more easily.

However, considering the abstractness we thought that intrinsic difficulty was not met to the standart. Items are revisited throughout the unit but the grammar exercises didn't fit with the level of the readings.

So, we thought the levels of the grammar exercises and the readings should be equal.

The target proficiency level that we chose is B1. Age group is 14-15. Vocabulary was great for the proficiency level. The words chosen were not too high frequency and was relevant in real life contexts. We think they balanced it well. When it comes to grammar, there we had some questions. The reasons for this was some of the tips and examples given in the unit. They were hard to understand for that level of students. Trying to make it easier for them, I think they got it complicated. However, other than that, the grammar was pretty teachable and basic. The visuals used were great and the pages were colorful and interesting enough.
