Adriana Silva, I got such an important insight about Social Protection topic. Some emergency social programs as in the pandemic times is misunderstanding. For instance people confuses emergency programs with social protection. Social protection is a deeper and important scheme ! It's aim to not left none behind!

Gosego Ivy Mmeanyana, Botswana

My summary of the topic is that countries need to commit to making sure that there are minimum standards of social protection measurers that should be accessible and available to all citizens and residents, to ensure that they are protected from shocks and to reduce their risk of falling into poverty. For citizens to be reassured of these minimum standards, there is need for Social Protection to be enshrined and recognised as a right in the constitution and other legal frameworks and countries must endure financing and sustainability of the programmes. In ensuring sustainability, what i take away is that people must be consulted during programme planning to ensure they participate. In addition, traditional forms of support should not be discarded but rather enhanced.

The key point in this model;
-Social protection floors are nationally specified sets of basic social security guarantees that should ensure, at the very least, that all people in need have access to critical health care and a basic income throughout their lives.
- The verdict on Universal Basic Income is still pending.
Whether or not it is implemented on a broad scale in the coming years, the UBI discussion reinforces the necessity and relevance of giving a minimal level of financial security to every member of society, which is crucial to the realization of human dignity.
- For social protection systems to be sustainable, a number of prerequisites needs to be in place. Among the critical factors of ensuring sustainability are:
    *Inclusive and effective social dialogue at the core of building social protection systems;
    *Robust statistics and monitoring and evaluation frameworks
   * Financing social protection
   * Building rights-based social protection systems (including a ratification campaign)
     *Financial governance and sustainability – actuarial valuations
    Digital transformation
    Adaptation of social protection systems to new and emerging challenges
    Culture of social protection
- A set of essential social services and income security measures that all persons everywhere should enjoy throughout the lifecycle – as children, working-age adults, older persons and in access to health care through Social Protection Floor

Taking this module, I now recognise social protection as a human right that should be enshrined by national constitutions. Also, at the international level, social protection floors are important. ILO Social Protection Floors Recommendation, for example, gives member states guidance for building comprehensive systems by prioritising the establishment of national floors of social protection that are accessible to all in need. Social protection floors can be defined as nationally defined sets of basic social security that guarantee basic income security and effective access to goods for all in society. Unlike the social safety nets, the social protection floors are in place to ensure that everybody feels safe and secure during their entire lifecycle no matter what lifecycle risk they are encountering. Moreover, I learned that social protection is not just one programme working on its own, such as a cash transfer programme for the poor and vulnerable, but it is a system of many programmes working together in harmony.
