Educators usually teach students in their native language in conjunction with a second language utilizing differing levels of the native and second language depending on the requirements specified in lesson plans and teaching models.</li><li>Bilingual education programs are designed to make grade-level academic content accessible to English learners through developing literacy and academic skills in the child’s primary language and English.&nbsp;</li><li>The academic, linguistic, and cultural background of English learners is used in a bilingual education program as the platform for acquiring grade-level content material in the primary language and English.<br><br></li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Provides instruction for Emergent Bilingual students in the most appropriate program format in accordance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines.</li><li>Provides instruction that reflects the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ISD curriculum guidelines in all content areas.</li><li>Promotes acceptance of Bilingual/ESL instruction as an integral part of the whole school program.</li><li>Promotes understanding and respect for diversity by students, parents, staff, and the community.</li><li>Supports staff development on cultural and linguistic diversity and second language acquisition strategies/methodologies.</li><li>Communicates success of Bilingual/ESL programs to the students, parents, district, and community</li><li>There are different program models that can be used in bilingual education. Historically, program models used for English Language Learners (ELL) have focused on helping students transition from their native language to English.<br><br></li></ul><div><strong><br>Transitional bilingual education</strong> involves the partial or total use of the child’s home language when the child enters school and, later, a change to the use of the school language only. The goal of transitional bilingual education is to transition students into English-only classrooms as quickly as possible. This is sometimes called early exit bilingual education.</div><div><strong>Maintenance bilingual education</strong> involves the use of the child’s home language when the child enters school, then a gradual change to the use of the school language for teaching some subjects and the native language for teaching others.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Instructions and directions should be written on the board for classroom procedures. Provide diagrammed or visual aids for new or difficult concepts. Modeling the steps of a process or showing students what a finished product should look like can go a long way toward helping students understand. English Language Learners have difficulty understanding the language providing visual aids is beneficial and will help all Bilingual students grasp concepts better.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

Giving ELL students the opportunities to work with peers who speak their language and native English speakers. Considering situations when using the home language is effective and helpful/, as noted above. Allowing students to practice new vocabulary words or specific language structures by putting students in mixed groups is beneficial as students can learn and grasp concepts quickly. Assign partners who are patient and supportive of ELLs when pairing them with native English speakers.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Find a fully bilingual interpreter.</strong></div><div>Having a bilingual interpreter can help communicate easily. it could be anyone, a school employee, parent liaison, family member, friend, or community member.&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Translate the written communications that you send home.</strong></div><div>Provide translated communication notes and learning materials in their native language. This will keep parents to stay up to date regarding report cards, school events, and homework. Google translate is an excellent option for translating English into any other language.</div><div><strong>Learn their language</strong></div><div>Learning a few common words to greet and communicate with parents is an excellent way to make them feel welcome.</div><div><strong>Put parents in touch with bilingual staff.</strong></div><div>Provide parents a contact list of bilingual staff and resource people and parents of bilingual students in the school and district so that they can reach out for help regarding academics.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
