Funding is intended to assist local charities, community groups and organisations working to improve the lives and life chances of people living in Manchester and to help develop stronger communities by encouraging more citizens to be active in working together to strengthen their community.

Grants of up to £500 are available for individuals and families.

There are three strands of funding:

• Manchester Relief in Need Grants - for adults living in Manchester.

• Children Relief in Need Grant - for children under the age of 25 in Manchester.

• District Nursing Fund - for the relief of people living in Manchester, Salford, or Trafford, who are on low income and are sick, convalescent, or disabled.

The trustees meet on the last Friday of every month (excluding December) to review applications.

Applications should be submitted before noon of the 15th of every month (excluding December 2025 when the deadline is on the 11th), to be considered at the subsequent trustee meeting.

Key priorities for 2026 are:

• Care Settings

• Financial Hardship for Older People

• Digital Participation.

Young jobseekers have access to all the job-related details they need in the HMRC app to simplify and speed up the process when starting a new seasonal job, including their National Insurance number, tax code, employment history and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) details.

In line with government guidance, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority is asking all VCFSE partners to take the following actions:

• Key Actions at Amber Alert Level

• Check in on people who may be more affected by heat – especially those living alone or without access to cool spaces

• Continue Yellow Alert actions – (see attached action card) encourage hydration, ventilation, and regular contact

• Adapt your services if needed – consider rescheduling home visits and activities to avoid the hottest part of the day

• Brief your staff and volunteers – make sure they know the signs of heat exhaustion and what to do

• Link in with local partners – stay connected with your local authority, health services, or Local Resilience Forum

Each area (ward) in Manchester has a total of £30,000 to support  community-led projects. There is no minimum amount you can apply for. The maximum you can request for one project is £5,000.

You do not need to be a big or established community group. Small and new groups of residents can apply too.

The sessions are engaging, interactive, and typically last around 60 minutes, although we can tailor them to meet the needs of your group. For example, when delivering sessions for men's groups, we have focused on bowel screening, prostate cancer awareness, and briefly touched on breast cancer.

They are flexible and can deliver:

• A single one-hour session

• A series of sessions over several weeks

• Bespoke sessions designed around the interests and needs of your group

Khidmat: Our Stories was co-produced by researchers from the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group at the University of Manchester and members of the Khidmat Group, a community organisation for older south Asian men.

It features the first-person life stories of eight group members, alongside striking photographs of the men in their neighbourhoods in Crumpsall and Cheetham Hill taken by documentary photographer Chan yang-Kim.
